Modesty Agreement

Yesterday, my friend invited me to a beach trip with his youth group. I was excited, because I love swimming ang going to the beach. But when we got there, the youth group leaders said, "Remember our modesty agreement" meaning girls could not have two piece swim suits. I did not know this, and I only own one bathing suit- a two piece (a modest one at that). They made me put on a T-shirt over which made me log water when I tried to go in the water. I kept falling behind and everytime a big wave came I got knocked off my feet. Anyways, I was not a fan of this "modesty agreement" at all. Even if we go to the beach, we're going to see a lot of girls in bikinis anyways. As long as the church girls don't wear skimpy string bikinis and thong-bottoms, I really don't think there's a problem. What do you think?

When you go to a place follow rules of that place. You are right from your outlook. But before accompany you should know the nature of the group. I think that was your mistake.

I agree on you. You should ask their rules, for this is church outing.

I think that the youth group sound overly conservative. I think wearing a two piece swim suit or a normal looking not too skimpy bikini should be have been fine. I know thong swimming briefs wouldn't have been appropriate. I like to wear a t-shirt over my swimming costume when I go swimming in the tropics. Then my back doesn't get sunburned. My friend came back with a red back and neck because he forgot to wear a t-shirt. Thinking of modesty I visited Eilat in Israel and Aqaba in Jordan. They are both places on the Red Sea. In Eilat ladies on the beach had bikinis on. Whilst in Aqaba the ladies stayed fully clothed. Most of them had their faces covered. The only body part showing were the eyes.

I think you have a strong argument there and I agree with you. Wearing a t-shirt in the surf seems to have proved restrictive and therefore dangerous or an impediment to your safety. Were you on a private beach? Obviously not so there would have been females there in various types of swimsuit, modest or not. Besides that, you were an invited guest not a member and unaware of the agreement so you should not have been included in the agreement. I hope you had a nice day anyway.

Many intelligent people are becoming disillusioned with a religion that continues to follow middle-age rules.I gave it up years ago,and still find it unbelievable in its many archaic beliefs. How can a human body created by God in His likeness and image be sinful? Where did God go wrong, and what Church can right His wrongs? I would suggest some serious thinking on the part of Christians as to the outdated beliefs touted by the Christian Religion!

There are two piece suits that are just as modest as one piece suits. As long as yours wasn't too skimpy, I don't see the big deal...

Our Church has the same policy. My kids attend Youth Camp, mission trips, and activities and are always advised to keep their skin covered up. I did not mind it. My daughter is 18 and looks great in a bikini but if she is with a group of boys then I prefer her to be more covered up. lol.

It would have been nice if someone had warned you beforehand and, while I don't agree with the modesty agreement, the church had the right to set the standard since it was a church organized event. You're right though...they couldn't stop the members of the group from seeing girls in string bikinis while at the beach.

Gosh! They should have at least informed you about that kind of agreement so that you will be prepared on what to expect. I also don't think there is a problem with that. Bathing suits are the proper attire in beaches. :D
