sometimes i play bass with my fingers and sometimes i play with a pick. for example, i'll play with a pick if I'm playing music along the lines of fall out boy or my chemical romance. but if I play some All Time Low tunes I play with my fingers. Some of you may think "oh well fall out boy and all time low are the same type music" which they technically are but if you listen to the bass lines they are slightly different. pete wentz from fall out boy plays with a pick and plays more fluid bass lines while zack merrick from all time low plays with his fingers and does more a funnky bass line. So do you guys play with your fingers, a pick or both?

I play both. I listen to all kinds of music from ska to punk to funk and everything else in between. So sometimes playing pick fits the tone but a lot of times I play with fingers to get the deep richness of my tone in my band setting.

Years ago, I played bass just because there's no one in the band willing to do so. Then, all things changed when i continued my studies at a local university. An instructor saw me playing and then he became my master. He is the best bassist for Asian Beat 2009 Championship for Malaysia and then represented Malaysia to Yokohama to play in Asian Band Summit 2009.If you search this in youtube,u'll see a lot nice videos. The winner is from Indonesia. Well, back to the issue, I started playing with the pick. Only after i met my master, i learned to play with my finger. By fingering, u get the groove n more feeling.Nevertheless, there are several conditions which needs u to play with the pick like playing the punk songs and etc. If we play using the finger, we can play all songs. But if we use the pick, not all songs gonna sound good.

my teacher forced us to use our fingers to get used to the pain at first.
