Have you tried travelling alone?

I grew up wherein I do things along with my family and when I travel, I was always accompanied by them. Sometimes I wonder how it feels to travel on your own, wherein you can go soul searching and take an adventure trip I've never tried before.

I would try travelling alone, though one should have an aim or a purpose.

Now I usually travel with my husband or with some friends, but when I was younger I often travelled alone. In 1999/2000 I worked in Estonia for a while and when I finished working I travelled around in the country by myself. It was very interesting and I got the chance to see many different places. I have also travelled around in Italy and in Hungary by myself. When you travel alone you have a lot of freedom and you are able to do exactly what you want, but it can get a little lonely sometimes, especially when you are travelling alone for a long period of time.

I've tried doing that recently, it can be a little scary at first because I haven't done it before but as you go along, there's a sense of excitement and adventure . You get to meet new people and aside from that, you have the freedom to choose wherever you want to do and go, unlike when you have friends around, sometimes they have their own interests and you have to compromise. The only downside I think is you will have a hard time during picture taking because its too bothersome to always ask people to take your pictures.

When I was a teenager I went to Finland as a children's nanny. Then I traveled around Europe alone. I stayed at youth hostels and found some friendly travelers to chat to. Apart from California and a bit of Australia I did my around the world trip alone when I was 20 to 21 years old. I was 29 years old when I went to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. In 2006 I traveled to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala alone. I was happy because it was exciting to go snorkeling and climb the Mayan ruins. It was a great trip. Then in the summer of that year I traveled alone to Bulgaria and Romania. Then my disabled son was born that next year and two years later my baby daughter was born. So these days I travel with my children. I look back and remember with much fondness traveling alone. It is more challenging to travel with a disabled child and a baby but it still makes me happy.

I actually like traveling alone. I do take my girl-friend & my daughter on trips or vacations but because of my work, I tend to travel a lot & I like it. Doesn't mean I don't like traveling with my girl friend or taking my daughter on a trip. I used to travel alone all the time but of course it slowed down considerably with my daughter in my life. Sometimes my girl-friend kicks me out of the house for few days so I can go on a short trip by myself.

yes. last time was when i went to my sister's place. that was my birthday, she asked me to come since she can't visit me. i've heard the place is nice so that's one thing i did go. i'm not into traveling by the way. i don't like it cause it tires me. the trip was nice though, as well as the place. i like it and hopefully can come back.

Part of my job is travelling. So I go to different cities, all alone. Sometimes I would wish that I bring my family with me. Specially after the meetings, as I drive back to the hotel and I figure out what to do the rest of the night. But you get used to it. And then you learn to appreciate being able to think clearly without the distractions of the family.

I have tried travelling alone.I have travelled going out of town and meet my aunt for a vacation. I am just 23 years old and I think in this age, a person can handle herself on her own.

I haven't tried but I am keeping it in mind this year. I want to go to Boracay or Baguio alone.

I can't imagine travelling without my family. We always travel together. It would be so quiet and lonely without them.

I haven't traveled alone as well, I'm always with someone. I think traveling alone would be a good idea. I see those people traveling alone as brave souls. I'm not sure if I would try that sometime in the future cause I like to experience wonderful moments with friends or families.

I've actually been thinking about that lately. I think it would be kind of scary to travel by myself, but I also think it may be more fun and exciting that way. You won't have to have any plans, no one to stop you from doing anything you want. It could be a good experience!

I usually do the travelling part on my own but stay at friends place at whatever I travel to, so that's not quite the same as travelling alone. If my friend's working I can to tourist things during the day and we can hang out in the evening. I've travelled all on my own though, I like it, it depends a bit where I'm going to. Being alone in a big city for example, I think that's more boring than going alone to somewhere to go hiking. Partly because it's often easier to find someone to hang out with in the evenings if you're at a youth hostel somewhere out in the bush, or you're so tired you don't care, but in a city going out to eat on your own is a bit boring. Not much soul searching when I go travelling alone though, just a lot of photographing :-)
