"Yes" makes us pretty, "No" makes us ugly.

Have you noticed that, when you say the word "yes", it's almost as if you're smiling? On the other hand, when you say "no", it makes your face look all scrunched up, wrinkled and just plain ugly?
I noticed this yesterday. My sons were here visiting for the day and it dawned on me that, every time I said the word "yes" it not only looked like I was smiling but it FELT like I was smiling.
I'm not talking about the positivity or negativity of those two words; I'm talking about our actual facial expressions. "Yes" makes you smile, "no" makes your face look like you're pouting.
Yeah, I know this sounds all hippie-ish but, remember, I'm just an old hippie and all that "peace and love" stuff has tagged along with me into old age.
So, it's okay if you feel the urge to say, "Wow, groovy man! That's heavy!"

Yes Yes Yes! I just love your topic.
I have not noticed this before but it sounds so reasonable! But I do not want to become a "yes-woman" just for the sake of increasing my beauty. I do have principles...

I "no" what you mean! We all have to say no sometimes, if only for our principles.
I'm typically an upbeat, cheerful person but even I will say no when it's appropriate, no matter what my face looks like.

Thanks for "no-ing" me. I think the beauty of a happy and cheerful person at heart would always shine through, regardless of the circumstances.

You are quite right but I have worked very hard to learn how to say no and when I manage it I am very proud of myself; I may not look the best but at least I wouldn’t have been roped into doing something I didn’t want to do! Maybe we should stick to smiling to enhance our expression; s smile can be a beautiful sight...

So true, Paula! I love to see people smiling. I also love to smile. I've seen physically ugly people look quite beautiful when they smile.
I don't have a hard time saying no but I really don't like the way it makes my face look when I say it so I try to avoid saying no at all, even if I have to turn an answer around so "yes" means "no", if that makes any sense.

I like the happy face we get when we say the word "yes".

Hi gabs. I know what you mean about those moods! My sons are the same way, especially my younger son. He can't hide anything from me. LOL

I had never thought of it before either. It just popped right in there, like most of my thoughts do.
I've thought about other words that make your face ugly. I've called them "ugly words", like the word 'broom'. I've never liked the way my face looked whenever I'd say that word. The word 'the' makes you look like an idiot if you say it 10 times in a row, not that anyone would do that, but... just sayin, you know?

Thanks, jillhill. It has brought a few smiles to my face, even some laughs, so I'm glad I thought of it and decided to post it here.

i guess i never thought about it.. before i read your discussion i assumed it was about how people perceive us depending on our answers since some people only seem to love you or think your attractive if you say "yes" since they are getting their way but your right your face does change with the words.. weird..
