judging a movie from its trailer?????

is it a good idea to judge a movie from its trailer?? my first question is who has ever watched a movie trailer that was not good??? 100% of trailers make the movie seems like it is a must see. but when you do get to watch the entire movie you are left disappointed.but i guess that is the purpose of the movie trailer. i think the best way to judge a movie's worth is from the movie critics. the only problem with this is that the movie critics themselves are sometimes biased by their own tastes and sometimes by outside interference.

hello james, trailers are just ironed-out versions of the whole movie, and rarely does a trailer hold true to the greatness of the movie itself. latest proof of it: Airbender, the legend of aang. i officially hate m night shyamalan. that's why i don't watch movies during their premiers anymore. lol

I would say yes of course it is! I have seen some awesome trailers where the movie just outright sucked and i have to say 9/10 times that is the truth. I still fall for it every now and again hoping just hoping its not true but like a fool I get tricked again lol. Well happy movie hunting!

Well you are spot on when you say that trailers are crafted to make people want to see movies and as such have ended up seeing a movie of the back of watching a trailer only to realise that the trailer was basically all the best bits. But at the same time I have watched trailers and realised that a movie wasn't what I thought it was going to be and as such didn't bother with it. So in that sense watching a trailer can be iseful to decide whether or not to watch a movie but people must realise that trailers are different to movies. As for reading critics appraisals, what I have found is to find a handful of critics who generally share the same feelings with you over movies, something which takes time to do. That way you can usually end up watchin those movies which will most likely appeal. But at the same time you are right about critics being biased towards certain types of movies and that's why you should never just rely on one critic as a source of whats good or not. In fact it is often better to avoid those big critics who write in the press and find movie reviews and blogs from your average guy on the street as they tend to review films on whether they were entertained and not on artisitc merit which many big critics end up doing.

i've seen some fantastic trailers but the actual film has been rubbish,i've been very disapointed,i try not to be influenced by the trailers now,i tend to read a review about it,then decide whether i think it'll be any good

I may get interested about a movie from a trailer. I try not to base any judgments on movie trailers. Often the trailers are just teasing you to see the movie. You don't get the whole picture. I weill save my movie judgements for after I have seen the movie.

I dont really judge a movie. I judge it with the picture. If I like the picture and I feel that it is a good movie even if I dont like the trailer I still watch it; hoping that the movie would still turn out to be good.

the trailer is only just how the story of the movie goes.,,but sometimes trailers make the movie interesting to be watch but until we watch the movie and finished it until the end and we can say that the movie is good isn't..some trailers show the highlights of the movie to make the people have the thought that movie is so interesting..it will depend how can we understand the movie..

No I think it was not a good idea after all if you might noticed some movie trailers looks good in every scene shown in the trailer but when you watched it you might find unsatisfying while there are trailers that looks boring but when you watch them there were the one that would satisfy your movie addictions.

i agree that sometimes trailers are misleading. they make you feel like the movie's great or something, but yeah that's the purpose of the trailer so we really can't blame it for 'lying';-) i think one way of judging if a movie is good is by waiting if it creates a buzz among the people or not. if it makes noise, there must be something in it right?(^_^)

A movie trailer's purpose is to tease the audience. It's really made to look like as if it's the best movie you will watch. But you can never tell from watching a 2 minute trailer unless you watch it. I love watching trailers though. It gets me excited to watch movies.

I think you should keep it simple and sweet by just seeing the movie and deciding for yourself. I've seen movies that I heard people didn't like but saw because of the trailer and I ended up liking the movie anyway. Everyone is going to have a different opinion, so even though it might eat up a little of your time, you might as well just go and watch the movie and decide for yourself.

Trailers are there for a reason and that's to attract us to watch that movie. it's a good idea actually. Some of these trailers are launched 5 mos to a year before the movie get's launched. and yeah, the Last Airbender wasn't what i expected it to be but they did make an effort to include the highlights of Book 1: Water in the film.

I simply never judge a movie before seeing it. LOL. That's the only thing that works for me. You're right, a trailer tends to make the movie seem 10x better than it really is. And film critics... well, they're no different from you and me, if you think about it. They're simply rating a movie based on their own tastes. Plus, I usually end up more disappointed about "critically acclaimed" movies because I tend to expect a lot from them. As a matter of taste, I would be more likely to choose an underrated movie over some "award-winning" piece.

The very first impression that you give about anything becomes the lasting impression and determines your chances of getting what you want or losing everything. Trailers are meant to attract the people. Most trailers are good and they are made in such a way that we are tempted to watch the movie only to find that the movie is utterly boring. It happened with Karate Kid....I had high hopes watching the trailers but the movie was by far bad. Trailers also creates expectation and anything short of it is disaster.

Oh I do this and I feel I have a good record for doing it, however I can be wrong. It's really something that they try to avoid by putting the best bits in, although it's clear as day within trailers the degree of acting and when I spot bad acting I will not watch that movie no matter what reviews say. I'm a good judge of what I like. :)

I don't think thats good idea because its sometimes its not as good as trailers describe. I usually watch movie that become box office in original country because thats movie usually late come to Indonesia. Box office means thats movie worth to watch. I also watch movie that recomended by my friend who had the same taste in movie with me. I don't like horror movie even if it really fun to watch.

yes i agree with you.to choose between movie trailer and reviews i would go for movies reviews.the trailers always served you with the best parts they have while for movie reviews it helps me whether the movies are worthy to watch or not at all.however like you mentioned above sometimes their comments are biased so i would read more about it before jump to any conclusion.
