I know it's not that interesting to talked about but it's something that my mom hadn't done in YEARS..
ever since she got that money that my dad left over in the bank while he was here in the Phils. she decided to have several things fixed. first, the drainage, adding new route of water because the pipe that was use was too small, it's a lot better now that were not having floods again.
but then we still had those showers that are coming from the ceiling so my mom decided to have it fixed...or replaced since it's almost rusted.even some of the roof holes were fixed.
but my mom wants the front renovated into commercial rent, trouble is that it's too much..at least 20k dollars needed to have it constructed at least.

hello brother,
I also done so many things like renovation and fixing a lot alone.
I had our roof painted yearly for maintenance.
I had our house repainted last 2 years ago and to save more from labor i and my kids painted the walls and let the laborers do the ceiling (which is the hardest part)
I also learn to fix the faucets and showers (good thing is,we had complete basic tools with piping like valve, fittings etc)
That's one thing i am thankful with my (ex-husband) he teach me things when it comes to basic home repairs and introduce me the tools to be needed.
(he had well a organized cabinet full of tools (piping, electrical )
And so with costings and materials best to be used with house construction.
I also had our gutter replaced with oven painted (which is better)i can't afford the stainless for it costs too high.
I also trying to learn replacing my car tire (i don't know what kind of fixing to do and learn more)

Think of the renovations as a long term investment, especially if your mom is thinking of having the place leased out. At least in this way you can get passive earnings from this. I know how much renovating costs because we are in the process of renovating too, and we have so far spent a total of $3000 just for the kitchen alone.

WOW! has it gone that expensive all over the years?? this is quite insane, we should have turned our front into a lease a long time ago when it was still cheaper to make a lease. that's more almost 140k already. imagine, what would the lease cost, it's hard these days but at least home improvement was a priority@anne25penn (3305)

Yes, it's that expensive to make home improvements nowadays and I don't even like what has been done to the kitchen. Its not even painted yet, but I can do the paint job myself. You have to be ready and the workers or contractors have to be trustworthy people.

LetranKnight25,
I hope your mother will realize and know what she is doing. Times are really bad and it would not be wise to spend every last penny on the renovations without due consideration for what is to come in the future.
You may want to have a word with her and see exactly if her decisions are to be taken or abandoned. Since the economic crisis, I think it would be better to have as much money in reserves than spending it all away.
Have a nice day.

of cshe knows what she's doing. it's no joke to experience shower in your living room instead of bathroom. and floods too after hours of doing floor waxing..we thought about it and now that we got the money, this was the time for us to do something about it.

hi letran its so easy for one to get carried away by making
improvements but you mom should realize that renovating like
that could rent into huge money. Have you talked to her
about the real cost? Do you think if she did this would she
make that much back any time soon,if not I would sure persuade
her to hold off on it. Is there any way you could get friends
who are into carpentry to do this for next to nothing? I sure
would hate to hear your mom had run into a huge debt? Its so
easy to do and so hard to undo.Good Luck. I will send some
prayers that your mom will hold off on that huge expense.

Nope she won't loan and will never loan just for constructing lease. it's already a pain to pay bills, that she wouldn't risk for such expense. knowing now a days businesses don't last forever. thank you for the prayers. @paula27661 (15811)

We did renovations to our house around six years ago and it’s the best thing we ever did. Our house was very small and when our daughter came along it became a little cramped so we spoke nicely to the bank and my husband took on a second job so we could add a lounge room, a bedroom and another bathroom with toilet. Our house is still not huge but to have that extra space is wonderful; it worked out cheaper for us to do that than move to a bigger place. Your mum sounds like she is getting right into renovation mode! Do advise her to consider carefully before spending a lot of money because sometimes it is not viable to renovate and will not add value to certain properties; I’m not sure how it works but a real estate agent would be able to let you know if the job is worth doing.

Which should have been done years ago. the last renovation was like Nine years ago, and some of the parts of the hours are rotting or rusted already. i know, this is the time to have such parts of the house fix, she's done waxing the floor, which she likes the best to do.

We are doing a few renovations here ourselves. My husband and I bought a vanity and faucet for our bathroom, we also bought a faucet for his parents bathroom and for the kitchen. This was for their birthday.
There is still more to be done to the house and we plan to help them financially with this also. The house will eventually be ours so while we are helping them we are also helping ourselves. If we take good care of the stuff we can have it for years and years to come.
The other things that need to be done are new wallpapering and / or painting as well as new carpet and flooring. I am sure without our help it would cost them a pretty penny.
It sounds like your mother has been doing a lot to renovate the house though I have to say I am not sure what you mean by "commercial rent" and wow 20k is a lot money!

Hello
Spending money in renovation is not expenditure but sort of long time investment, you will get back slowly over years, i spent over 1500000 rupess in renovation and now some portions are given on rent, i get 8000 rupees as rent..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.
