Menopausal Hot Flashes

My wife had her menopause long back, she is 59 now, but she still has the hot flashes.
Doctors advised hormonal therapy, I am not favor or this at all. We tried herbal, ‘Aurvedic’ medicines, but the problem persists.
Today while searching in net I received this information, it says, ‘It can feel like summertime all year round for millions of women who suffer from hot flashes/night sweats. Even those who experience hot flashes only seasonally may dread summer heat. One can keep body cool by controlling outside influences that trigger hot flashes. Wear light, breathable fabrics; lower the thermostat; use relaxation techniques; and avoid any known personal food or stress triggers. .
Here are some more “cool” tips:
Break a sweat. Exercise increases endorphins—your “feel good” hormones that also influence activities related to your internal thermostat. Just 30 minutes 3 times weekly can reduce hot flashes, and improve other menopausal symptoms such as depression, fatigue, anxiety, and insomnia.
Drop some weight. Overweight women have more frequent and severe hot flashes, as well as increased risk to diseases associated with menopause, such as osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome, and heart disease.
One can also try natural relief. A special botanical extract of rhapontic rhubarb root called ERr 731®, prescribed in Europe since 1993, is now available as a dietary supplement in the U.S. It offers similar hot flash relief to hormone therapies, but is safer and can even be used in perimenopause—when hot flashes may be most severe.
Well the city where we live is having a hot climate; my wife wears cotton saree and blouse, very comfortable. We don’t need any cloth that has internal heating arrangement. She does light exercises and walking, she is fatty, fair and overweight too. Her menopausal problem persists. ERr 731® is not available in my country.
Do you, your mom, wife or any known woman suffer from this? What remedy you did? My American friends
can tell about ERr 731® if they know.
Please help and comment on this.

hello Prof,
My mom had just overcome menopausal.
She doesn't suffer much with sweating since she lives in a cold weather place.
And she also tried all the possible ways of reducing menopausal flash out.
Like she avoid coffee, reduce her weight and do some exercises too.
She also took hormonal supplements such as Evening Primerose,Cod liver oil and also Vit.E for skin.
Luckily my mom did not suffer much with menopausal, and i wish i also will not have hard time when the time i reached my menopausal period
Happy Monday dear

All I can say is, I remember when my mom and aunt went through is and man they were using the damn refrigerator to get over their hot flashes, and the AC was almost all of the time. My mother was anxious and had some insomnia. She drove me nuts sometimes.

If you do not want to try medical hormone therapies.. You can ask the doctors about what kind of hormones they recommend and explain to you both how they work.. Then look into healing foods. Many foods will give the body natural boosts to hormones to help, balance the body.. Soy milk helps me although I do not have menopause I have gotten similar symptoms of it since age 9... as well as horrible break out so I have taken to eating a lot of chicken, and broccoli, and drinking soymilk helps me out quite a bit..but as far as to get rid of hotflashes.. Many I wish they made an automatic thermal suit we all could afford for that. :) I am tired of being to hot and to cold all the time..

eatin soy and soy products along with taking evening primrose
just about put a kibosh on my hot flashes. I lost a little
weight and that helped too. now in my elder years I am a diabetic and if I do not control my blood glucose level and get too high I will feel like a hot flash but its high blood sugar. keep it level no hot sweats at all.

Hi there! Just wanted to put in my two cents. I did menopause the completely natural way. I don't believe in hormone replacement therapy. It's not natural! The body is meant to go through these changes. I found that the friends and collegues of mine that relaxed, accepted the fact that it was time for menopause and did it naturally suffered the least symptoms and are the healthiest now. My secret to ward off the hot flashes and other symptoms was and remains soy! In any form, but I usually drink it as milk, or eat the boiled beans, called edamame. They are a great, healthy snack! Good luck to your wife.

I didn't like the idea of hormone therapy either. I visited a naturopath, and got some homeopathic remedy that was intended to balance my hormones. But I have never gotten really bad hot flashes.
