Many people believe that "Atheism" is also a one kind of Religion?Maybe it is due to some persistent misunderstanding of what atheism is.Whatever the actual reasons, this claim keeps appearing in many articles and newspapers. what do you think is atheism itself some sort of religion..?

I don't believe Atheism is a religion, because a religion means worshiping a god, having rituals etc. The name itself (which comes from Greek) means 'no god'. If the 'Atheists' would worship something/somebody, that would be a god, and thus not being atheists anymore. I think that people put it in the 'religion' category as it is some kind of religious orientation, a religious choice (that is not having one, actually), but I don't think that Atheism is in any way a religion.

what the definition of religion first. that is the one thing we need to know. if religion is believe in God, i guess atheism is not a religion at all and what is atheism itself?

I just find religion is for weak people that are to weak to think for themselves and have to have someone do if for them, Or scared. (No offence if you follow a religion, this is just my personal opinion)

I really don't think it is a kind or religion. Atheism is the beliefe that there is no religion. They don't believe in any god or higher being; they don't believe in anything at all. It is simply a term to categorize people that don't believe in a god.

I think you've scrambled your words a little there - "Atheism is the belief that there is no religion." I DO believe religion exists! There's plenty of proof to back that up.

Definition taken from http://www.dictionary.com "1. A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs." If you use this or any of the other definitions from http://www.diciontary.com, it would not be considered a religion (and should not). Religion is a set of beliefs, while atheism is the exact opposite: a lack of a set of beliefs. As I'm sure someone has mentioned before in this discussion or previously, and I'm just quoting here, "Calling atheism a religion is like calling not collecting stamps a hobby" or "atheism is a religion as long as baldness is a hair color". Do you understand now? It just doesn't make any sense to call atheism a religion (I agree it should only be labeled a religion in a political sense, as it would be needed to address people who don't believe in a higher being).

I am amazed with the responses people have given by now. I expected people shouting "Yes, it's a belief so it's a religion!". But no, I guess I underestimated my fellow mylotters. So, no, it's not a religion, it's not a belief. It's a lack of belief in a superior invisible intelligent deity. It's just a denomination given to people who have better things to do with their lives than praying and giving all their money to the churches.

I don't think so. The religions are connected with a believe in God(s). The Atheism is just the opposite. There is no believe in God. Yes, it seems that some people have misunderstood the concept of "Atheism". Either I'm wrong or they are.

Atheism is treated as a type of religion politically speaking..but technically its not. Religion is actually a compound word which "RE" (meaning again) + Ligos (Bind, tie with).. its a reunion of man to his supernatural being or God. Since Atheism has no God there is no union, thus no Religion..
