Grocery Shopping Routine

We all have to get food some how. So I want to find out what others grocery shopping routines are. I shop about once maybe twice a week. I try to look at the ads, see what's on sale and always make a list. We don't buy many already prepared or frozen foods I make most of the stuff fresh. We eat out maybe once a week or so. What about you? How often do you shop? Do you make a list? Check deals? Prepare fresh or frozen foods? Eat out? What's a week of eating like at your house? And I spend about a hundred dollars a week for our family of 4. If that info isn't that personal..then please share also.

I center my shopping around deals and coupons then plan meals from there. A lot of things influence the meals I prepare. This week has been influenced by the weather so we have tried to have meals that are mostly cold. Three adults live here. My son buys some of his own supplies for breakfasts and lunches as he has to be at work by 5:00 am. He does eat supper and on weekends with us. Usually his weekend is Friday, Saturday and Sunday because usually they work ten hour days. When it is hot, there is an agreement with the utility company to shut down early. On those weeks he works five days. Certain things are staples at my house, other things are optional. Milk, eggs, bread, and peanut butter are gotta haves. I occasionally shop at Sam's

Well thanks GardenGerty. You shop about like I do. I find out what meats are on sale and then go from there. We have to have our milk, eggs and bread also..oh and the cereal. My little ones have to have it.

Hi, natnickeep. We usually shop like three to four times a week. There seems to be something that we always need. We may eat out once every month or two months. We eat mostly home cooked meals that are prepared by me or my husband. I do coo frozen vegetables. I love to steam them in the microwave oven. I usually will cook once or twice a week. We may spend about $85.00 a week if we really have to go shopping.

I hardly ever use a grocery list. I just remember to but what I may need.

we don't really have a routine, but sometimes we bring with us a checklist of what we'll buy for the day because i've learned from the past that i'm an impulsive buyer. whenever i see something that *i think* need, i buy it.. making me over the budget. It's frustrating especially when you're on a budget.

That is why I make a list. So I have enough to pay for what I am buying when I get to the line. I can make a hundred dollars go a long way. My mom is single and buys frozen and already made foods and spends just as much as me a week to feed her, just her, as I spend to feed a family of 4.

We're supposed to have a budget of $50 a week for 2 of us, but with my not having any work some weeks now and only one or two days a week other weeks, plus my husband being unemployed, we are not able to do that so much. But people are good to us. This past week, my neighbor said we could go get some corn from his garden. So we had corn for free. A friend of ours just dropped off 5 tomatoes. I picked apples once and Phil twice. We each went blackberry picking, too. So the apples, corn, tomatoes, and blackberries are free right now. So fruits and veggies haven't been a problem. Oatmeal or eggs for breakfast. Cheese and bread for lunch. We often get bread for 1/2 price at an old bread store. I often buy cheese by the slice at the nearby store and even though the neighborhood store is very expensive for most things, the cheese is often a dollar cheaper and I buy 10 slices at a time. Cucmbers down the road at a stand were $1.00 for two good sized ones and I couldn't pass them up. Supper is meat and veggies and fruit. Last night my husband bought potatoes. We have onions in the garden, they cost about 20 cents an onion or less depending on if they're the ones we planted this year or the ones that reproduce every year. So milk, meat, cheese, bread, etc. we've gotten down to $25 to $40 a week.

Oh yeah, we have rice or noodles often, some of which was given to us, too. Some strange kinds of noodles that taste strange unless you make the stuff a day ahead and let the sauce soak through, we were given them because they didn't like them and since they're so strong tasting, we can see why.

Hi, I just came back from my grocery shopping and I did it at least twice a week. Sometimes can be more than twice a week if I have some other thing need to be bought. Normally, I will do my grocery shopping on weekend morning, that is to avoid crowd and long queue in the cashier. I never do a check list, but I will remember in my mind what items I need to buy for the day...the most, I will input a list on my mobile phone.More practical!! I do check on some canned products on their expiry date before I purchase. Sometimes the supermarket may have sales on certain products, and it is best to check out on the expiry date as some may have very near expiry date and I don't buy those items. I seldom dine-out.most of the time I will cook for my family. I will only dine-out for special occasion like birthday celebration. It is more healthier to eat home-cooked meal.

Yes it's healthier and safer. I don't know if anyone has seen that busted and disgusted show but home cooked food is much safer. At least you know what's in it and how it's cooked. I think I only check the expiration date on my dairy products other than that I just assume they will be good enough long enough for them to disappear.

I often shop on weekends. I buy enough food for a week. I also created a list of food to buy but it is not repeated. I do not eat out, I want to cook at home. It's cleaner. I like fresh food than frozen food. It has preservative. Therefore, it is not good for health.

Sounds like you eat very healthy. No eating out..only fresh foods. You are on the right track. I never repeat the list either. I like to try a new recipe every week. And I make things like Chili, Spaghetti and tacos at least once a month.

we go shopping about once a week as my hubby gets paid once a week. we only buy things that we are in need of and shop as cheaply as we can. we spend slightly less than you for our family of 4 (right now its 5 because we have someone staying with us temporarily) we eat a lot of soups and pastas.

hi there! i do our grocery once every week. usually i just buy the same things...those basic that we will be needing in the house. sometimes i bring a list with me, sometimes i don't its because more or less i already know what to buy, they are all in my mind. lol! i have no worries in over spending on grocery since we are always on budget, good thing that i am not an impulse buyer when it comes to this. i don't usually buy frozen and canned foods coz we prefer freshly cooked more. we do eat out once in a while and usually that's during our grocery/market day! and sometimes when i just get tired of cooking and want to taste other foods than my own cooking. hehe most part of our weekly budget also goes on food even if we are just two in the house. anyway, we also have regular visitors in our house every week and so they are also included in the food budget. i just buy enough stocks for the week. i hate it when foods spoil, its a waste and very unwise.

I shop once in a week. I always go to the promo section first because I like buying stuff in that section because you can buy a lot of good things with lesser amount. After that, I go to the areas where other things are sold and i buy stuff that I need.

Hubby and I did our grocery shopping yesterday. We stock up on groceries when we go and we only go once a month. We make a lot of whole wheat and spinach noodles and just buy canned sauces to go with them. We also eat a lot of jarred fruit and frozen veggies. I am diabetic so we don't get a lot of things already made up. We do make a list and we use coupons and also look for deals while we are shopping.
