I logged on to yahoo this morning. Upon logging on, you come to the top stories of interest for the day. The first story was about Michelle Obama and her 9 year old daughter Sasha taking a private, four-day trip to spain. SO WHAT!! All the other crap going on in the world and that's all we got? Believe it or not I too take private trips with my daughters. I know they are public figures and its nice to mention it but to make a big deal out of it. She had money before her husband became president. It just irritates me that this 9 year old girl is on a vacation with her mom and these tabloids are making it seem dirty. I do understand that now that she is first lady more people are interested in what she does. COme one let the woman have a vacation from the monotony. Just my opinion. what's yours?

I think the big deal was the cost of the motels rooms, air fare, there were 70 secret service people that had to go with her and be housed all on the tax payers dime. But, I agree, they must not have any other news to report to make that a top story. Yeah, we are in a recession and a lot are out of work, the media says it is tasteless for her to be going on vacation while so many people are suffering. But there were jobless and a recession BEFORE Obama got into office. Whether I agree or disagree with the current administration doesn't matter, I get tired of all the media nitpicking. I believe no matter who is in office they deserve the respect of the American people.

Actually, the only things paid with American tax dollars was the secret service. The rooms, airfare, food, etc were paid with personal Obama money. I don't see the big deal with what is essentially American royalty going on a little vaca. Besides that, I do believe they were formally invited by the Spanish king and queen to spend a few days at their summer palace after the personal trip. I'm with you in thinking they deserve our respect. Another thing - who cares how they vacation??? She's hardly Marie Antoinette!

How was it made dirty? DId I miss something? I get tired of the media making out like everything the presendial family does is big news. It is nice to occasionally know some little tidbit but when we are overwhelmed with it nearly daily it gets old fast. I try to respect them for who they are but still...!

Hey Celtic, Let me define my use of dirty. By this I mean they made it look shady. From where I live the tabloids are making the trip sound shady. As if the marriage is on the rocks or something is going on financially. Almost as if they were spending funds inappropriately. Give me a break she took her daughter on a vacation. They have tons of friends there as well. That's why I used the word "dirty". I understand that when you take a public office, your lives become public. When children are involved in the slightest it should be off limits. NO QUESTION. dl

I agree with you. The tabloids and most media now days has no respect for kids anymore than they do adults. All is fair game as far as they are concerned. And anything to make a buck. Comes back to the almighty dollar! Grrrr!

She comes across to me as showing off and thumbing her nose at the average American's money problems cause by the economy.

I agree. But there's one third of the population that will tune in or read to get fired up about this, and another third that read it or watch it to gush on (like people gush on celebrity). I hate celebrity personal life news (ie, who is marrying or dating who, celebrities drunk driving or getting arrested, etc.) unless it is REALLY funny or something.

I agree T. Its true that some people live on every move of celebrities.m Its a sick kind of infatuation. Hey who am I to judge? I just want children to realize that there's more to life than gossip. I dont care where or whom its written about. Thanks for having my back. dl

Thanks for your support. You are not alone in the fact that we both would like to have a job where you can go where you want, when you want. At least some of the time. Until then I will join you in the workforce with the millions of others trying to achieve the same goals. Thanks for responding. dl

I read the report too..and from what I understand, it was more about the money spent on the security (tax payer's money) that the fact that the mother and child were vacationing. The report clearly mentioned that the money spent on the vacation was their personal money....and they weren't using government money to vacation. Though I understand why a certain group might be upset that the Obamas spent tax payers money during recession...like you rightly pointed out, there are so many other things they need to be concerned about than the money spent on security.

I think with the economy making it so difficult for many Americans to pay their bills many people do not like being reminded of the Obama'a personal wealth by an ostentatious vacation display. I think Mrs Obama should have thought of how this bad press could affect her husband's political career and tones her vacation choice down. As for the tabloids making it "dirty" I have not seen anything to suggest her vacation is being viewed as dirty. Unless it could be because her husband is in Chicago with Oprah and she is in Spain and plenty of hot blooded Spaniards are available!!??!!

The first family will always get a lot of publicity. Sometimes it seems pointless to know every little detail and sometimes I think they press should just give them a break for a while. However I do not want all the new to be bad. It is refreshing to read a news story that is not bad once in a while.

No, you aren't the only one that could care less. Believe it or not, I'm in the same boat as you are. I actually think that what you've hit on right here is one of the main reasons that I would never feel comfortable being a public figure. If there is only one thing in my life that I value, that would have to be my privacy and anyone that is in the public's eye in any way, shape, or form has no sort of privacy at all.

I agree with you dloveli. There are more important events happening "somewhere" in the world. I'm going through hard times too, but I could care less what celebreties do and I don't have a problem with the first family taking a vacation someplace. I'm sure this first lady is not the first to take a vacation if a foreign land.

I think you are right sister!. What is the problem she taking vacation with her daughters!. I will wanna vacation too if I had to live under that many spotlight, its really hectic to life like that. I believe become a first lady she has be lost many freedom she had before her husband elected. Including quality time with her daughters.

I understand your point. Boy, think about Sasha. She is only trying to enjoy time with her mom and has all the cameras around making a big deal out of it all as if there is nothing better to but on the news. It's just like the time Obama took a bunch of men out to get a hamburger. It was in the news for a week. Give us a break. Who cares about his buying men hamburgers or Michelle and Sasha taking a mother daughter trip. Yes, Obama is President and Michelle is First Lady. But.... They are still humans just like the rest of us and have a right to a little of a normal life outside there job in the White House. The news media just needs to cut them some slack.

hi dloveli I so agree let her take her daughter and have a vacation and leave them the hell alone. There is nothing dirty about that , she is a woman with a daugher whom she loves just like any one else. the tabloids can make the most innocent thing seem dirty. and I suppose some people just gobble that up , their minds must be like sewers.I never read those vile things as most of its just made up crap to sell sensationalism. yuck.

Hi dl~ I kind of felt the same way. It did seem like the press was trying to make it sound "wrong" and like Michelle was doing something that she shouldn't be doing by taking her daughter Sasha on a four day vacation to Spain! I don't think that was so awful! They were making it seem like the taxpayers were footing the bill for the trip, when of course, those of us with a brain know that this was not the case! Why begrudge a Mother and her Daughter a four day vacation just because she is First Lady and First Daughter? I don't think that it was necessary to report in the first place and hardly a "top news story"! I guess that goes with the territory of being the President's Family!

I totally agree with you. The tabloids need to make everything about this President and his family look or seem dirty. It just makes me sick. I heard Michelle took both daughters that is why they were not around for President Obama's birthday this week. I guess it was a slow week for the tabloids that that is all they could come up with. All parents should take their kids on trips while they are out of school. This trip will be very educational for them.
