Before I acquired my first laptop, I thought I would get over my desktop computer, but it turns out that I spend more time with my PC desk top than my Laptop... though my laptop specifications greatly out performs my desk top PC, I still prefer my Desk top more because It doesn't over heat, larger ergonomics at the keyboard, larger mouse, screen with good seating angle, i still think its faster though its 1 GB lower in RAM with single P4 processor... What are the other functional advantages of a Desk top computer over a laptop computer? Please add to my list and explain... many thanks in advance..

I love my laptop but I am prefer to used my desktop due to the numeric key, I always deal with numbers so it's easy for me to press the keyboard numerical area than the laptop. It's easy to think without seeing one by one numbers. I am aware where my fingers touched if I need this kind of numbers. In laptop you need to see it before pressing the key. It's hard for me to locate it takes more seconds to find.

Next time you buy a new laptop, purchase one with the numeric keypad. I have one, and I use it when inputing any number. I upgraded from a laptop that did not have a numberic pad, at a good price. :)

Hi incus99! Advantage depends on the person who is using either laptop or desktop. If you are a person who always travel, laptop is an advantage. These are some of the advantage of the DESKTOP over a LAPTOP: 1.) Desktop is much comfortable to use. 2.) There is almost unlimited upgrade options for desktop in terms of hardware. As long as your motherboard can support, go for it! 3.) When your desktop gone on strike, you can simply call a friend with advanced knowledge on computers to repair it. No need to call Customer Support to solve your problem. 4.) Reliability is not a question, you can even turn on your desktop 24 hours without problems because of overheating. 5.) Games can perform well on desktop compared to laptop. 6.) Price is a big issue here. Laptop is much higher compared to desktop even at the same specs. 7.) Replacement for defective parts are always available and easy to find. Despite of these advantages, many people still prefer Laptops because of its light weight designs, energy savers and mobility. Hope this helps!

You can bring the laptop anywhere you go. It's convenient and it's cute. Well, laptop is not for heavy duty and not suitable for heavy games. But i do love laptops appearance.Lol anyway, it depends on what you want. I love computers too.

I have always favoured the desktop over the laptop! Ok, I admit a laptop can be convenient for travelling and taking out and about with you but I think that a laptop has very limited upgrade capability! With a desktop you can take the side cover off, have a look around inside, see what's what and add extra parts if needed! This is what I like to do! Desktops are definitely a lot more durable or tougher than laptops. I think the best thing you can do with a laptop is, when you buy it new make sure that you have the warranty on it and continue to renew the warranty so that you get free services should anything go wrong. My warranty has expired on my desktop but that's ok because I know how to do everything myself which includes upgrading computer components such as memory and drives. No doubt, laptops are very nice to look at and I know that they are becoming more and more powerful now but I think I will always favour the desktop over the laptop. Andrew

I uesd to find it difficult to type on a laptop for any length of time or at any speed. But, now I use only a laptop and it is fine. Now I find a desktop computer cumbersone. My laptop is also as good as most desk top computers, especially as for most tasks you don't need the full power of a computer. I guess you can still get better specs with a desk top and many will disagree with me about the keyboard.

Well there are many advantages to be pointed... I am specifying a few as follows: - A Laptops life is 5 - 6 years at the most. Desktop goes on and on... - Upgrading a laptop is costlier. - Bigger Screen - You sit in a good posture on desktop, so its better for your back. You will never have a seating arrangement for your laptop. - Your data remains at home and safe.

It's never been easy for a desktop to upgrade and replace your video card. Wanted more video memory after knowing a new model from ATI or any video card creators, you'll absolutely can do it. Keyboard and mouse seems to be more user-friendly rather than the ones in laptop.

mabuhay! It's a laptop, why don't you put that on the top of your lap.... ajejejejeje.... Then have some salts for your hard boiled eggs.... ajejejejejeje You are right the desktop pc has bigger display screen and doesn't generate a lot of heat. Anyway, why don't you try to have that display screen connect to your laptop together those larger ergonomics keyboards and mouse. Just what you said, your laptop specifications is greater than your desktop pc. Then if the display screen is already connected to the laptop you can close the lid cover of your laptop to lessen the heat from its LCD screen, and have some laptop stand with cooler or fan blowers.

Hi incus, Some of the functional advantages of a desk top over a laptop; 1) Desk tops stay cooler unlike laptop which start to get heated if you are using it for long. 2) Laptop becomes slow after using it for a few hours and desk top functions normally. 3) You can always upgrade your desk top with the latest hardware. 4) You don't need to switch off your desktop even after using it for the whole day, unlike any laptop! 5) The audio output is more powerful in a desktop, you will always get a more powerful audio on any set of speakers. 6) It is comfortable to use. 7) It is much more of a workstation compared to your laptop which is mostly used for basic purposes. 8) Playing games is much much more fun on desk top!! 9) You don't need to fear dropping your desk top.

i'm not really a techie but for me the advantages and disadvantage are price laptops are more expensive if both have the same specs space laptop has the advantage mobility laptop has the advantage energy laptop has the advantage usability you can use an external keyboard and mouse via USB if you're not used to a laptop's touch pad. Verdict. I prefer the laptop. Although, i still plan to buy a desktop for the kids since my laptop is in danger of being destroyed before i get my money's worth. Cheers!

The only advantage of a laptop over a desktop computer is the portability, laptops, notebooks and netbooks are designed to be portable and this is the only purpose of this kind of computers. A desktop computer has all advantages over portable ones, there are more room inside so you can place so much powerful hardware in a desktop, the heat is dissipated much more efficiently, you can change all the hardware or peripherals easily, you can built your own if you wish, the ergonomics is so much better and comfortable to use... etc... I buy only a laptop PC if I really need to carry it and use in several places or out of my home or office, but if I 'm going to work in a fixed place I prefer 100% a desktop computer...

It's always there for you lol. I think that the fact that it is stationary, it will not become damaged over time. All of the above. I like sitting at the computer in my computer chair, and its is easy to do online data entry as a job for earnings. You can use your laptop. but, I end up hitting the wrong keys, and I can never get really comfortable. Nonetheless, I love computers. :)

Unless you have a networked printer, you need to keep plugging the thing into your laptop every time you need to print a document. Much easier to save it to memory stick then print it from your desktop.
