I remember my friends complaining to me that Philippines have so many holidays and it affect their jobs and even those who came here to study. They say it's not worth their money because every holiday is no class and no work.

If our company declares that there will be no work because of a holiday the employees still get paid. Most students like holidays too. Where are your friends from? Maybe we should compare calendars to see how many holidays they have compared to ours.

I think the holidays in the Philippines is just normal. It is a good sign that Filipinos are festive people and that they just don't focus on work only. Filipino people really knows how to live!

If they are foreign students, they have good reason to complain. The holidays don't contribute to the reason they are here specially if they are paying for their studies and they are taking these for a limited time. If that is the case, then they should take these holidays to learn more about our country and our culture. I also heard the same complain from my foreigner superior in my previous job. We have long Christmas break, Holy Week, etc... And, aside from the holidays, we have birthday leave and maternity/paternity leave. Some cities/municipalities even declare their foundation day as non-working holidays. Nevertheless, there are other countries which have more official holidays than our country (I think Indonesia is one).

When I was a regular employee, I use to wait for holidays and plan around them. Now that I chose to become a project employee, I dread vacations because its no work no pay. But come to think about it, I can spend the holidays working on my online projects which I have been neglecting for the last few weeks because of the hectic schedule. Holiday economics is not fun for employers. But it is a lot of fun for regular employees and those in the tourism industry.

I loved holidays when I was a student because it gives us an extra day to rest.. I love them more now that I'm working because it means we get to receive a premium pay when we work on those days..haha :D

Hi the declaration of the compensation of the holiday will be based on the management.does your friend work in as a private sector or not, If i knew there's a proclamation order for the holiday compensation of the employees who used to work in that holiday period 1 day of the employee will be paid if she/he works in that holiday the management or company must pay another 1 day for that employees in that particular holiday or sometimes some companies if there's a holiday employee must not able to work but she/he must be paid for that holiday season.I'm wondering where your friend is working may be he/she works in a company that provides a no work no salary policy.
