Yes and no. For me, it depends on the crime. For instance, someone that molests little kids deserves to be shot. However, a person that shoplifts for food, say because they lost their job and can't find another, shouldn't necessarily be punished for it, especially if they're just trying to put food on the table for their family. By no means does it make it okay to do it, but in a situation such as this the punishment, if any, shouldn't be too harsh.
So, what about you ladym? What's your take on it?

It depends. It surely doesn't apply when someone kills another human being. And it won't teach your kid not to throw stuff at you by throwing it back (it would actually be fun). But there are certain situations when, let's say a person has a specific habit that I do not agree with, but does not understand my point. So to make that person understand, I would probably do the same thing to them.
"Eye for an eye" sounds really gruesome, I would go more for "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

I believe in karma...as Steve says. Meaning when you wish bad things on others, it's usually you that ends up with the bad things happening.
It's not up to us to attempt to punish those who have hurt us.

Gandhi said something like "An eye for an eye leaves us all blind" and I think I agree with this. It's a slippery slope to becoming the same kind of monster that you're trying to punish.

I won't say i believe or disbelieve.
What i belief is that no matter what wrong we do too others, you will get your day.
That wheel turn each and every day.
The best of all, all our names are on there.
So we should not ask what we did wrong the day it stops on your name.
TATA.

I believe what goes around, comes around. In this life, or the next.

well I wouldn't say or believe or disbelieve, I'm neutral about it. though, I'd rather see a punishment come for someone when it's his time and not taking it in my hands. After all what goes around comes around, so I think for every butt there's a stick and once it's your turn for sure.
