I've been watching a lot of the movies on the indie channels and enjoy a lot of the movies from many other countries. I realize now that I prefer them over the American movies here. I find that a lot of the movies from other countries express a lot of truth in them, compared to the American movies. American movies seem to only be "silly"... with not much other depth. I feel a lot of other emotions when I watch other country movies. So far I like a lot of the "real" French movies. What do you think?

I sort of agree as modern mainstream American movies tend to bore me senseless with only the occassional one actually achieving any sort of depth. As such I love watching movies from other countries, especially Italian movies, because they don't have that Hollywood manufactured feel and tend to explore the dynamics of the storyline rather than justing giving us big stars and set piece scenes. But at the same time if you go back 50 years, you will find a plethora of American movies which have that same quality, where the storyline was the most important part of the movie with the stars coming second. So as well as watching movies from other countries I find watching old movies, black & whites from the 30s and 40s deliver up that same depth.

Hi there, thanks for replying. Yes, I agree, I forgot to mention that, but the older American movies were a lot better. I haven't seem much Italian movies yet, since the Indie channel concentrates a lot on French movies.. but I did come across one or two. I can tell the distinction from them and the American movie, that is for sure.

I like old American films like Clint Eastwood's western films, all of them are simple but great. I also like old and new French films. I don't like sci-fi movies, most of them are made with cheap CGI effects that sucks. I like movies that have simple actors with great plot.

Yes, I prefer the older American films also. There is still depth in them. I don't like Sci-fi much either... I especially like documentaries, comedy, and drama. Thanks for the reply!
