If this is applied in the era now, I feel very not right. Because now this man married more than once due to lust. Usually after getting the second wife's first wife is forgotten. An injustice. Many examples that I often see. Always lead to misery for all women.

Hi akn, I knew that, and I thought it was such a nice way to make society better!!! But there has to be flexibility in religions, as the situation was different then, it is not same now. And I am speaking for all religions, not just Islam. :)

I think it is not a rule in the holy book of koran to have many wives but it is an exception. Because I've researched for this one because I'm also interested to know. What I've found out is that Q'uran is the only religious book in the face of the earth that says "marry only one". Many people are in misconception that it is a compulsary for a muslim to have more that one wife. He is allowed to have many wives as long as the man can afford to maintain it. Meaning , if the man can keep all wives at the same standard of living and support all the children. If you wanna know furthermore you can go to this page. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/137855. Have a nice day!
