Where Are All the Good Jobs Going?

United States

It drives me nuts that all the good factory jobs are gone. My hubby used to work in a factory and we were so blessed. Over time and a very good pay rate. Now it seems as all of the good one's have left the country. The U.S. used to be the best place for people who want a secure good life, now we are lucky to have any kind of job. Steve is now working for minimum wage and keeping an eye out for something better. Are you guys in the same boat with us? How long do you think it will be before things turn around here?

You people are lucky to have a job during this hard time, some factory were closed during the offpeak season because of the long recession period and I guess they also have a hard time to recover since most factory rely on the consumers too, meaning there is a lot of supply than the demand and that makes them looses more money and were forced to closed. As I said earlier you were lucky to have a job while there are others struggling to find even a low paying one.

I never said we weren't lucky to have a job at all but when you have an 1100.00 a month mortgage plus all the other bills a minimum wage job does not pay them. We are getting by, by the skin of our teeth. I don't want to lose ahome that we worked so hard to get in the first place. And we are pretty close to that happening.

Good jobs are hard to find. So for you to have one, you should work hard to find one. In the first world country, there are many good jobs, unlike in the third world. People in the progressive nations, tend to look for a job in which they are more comfortable to work at, but in the third world, most people will do any job just to have one.

Hello kittenclaus, I think China and Japan did us in when we went to cheaper quality in items we buy. Look at the cars most us by Hyundia or Kia or something that is $10,000 range. The raises are not there anymore with the jobs people have too. Therefore less to buy with. Now Pakastan and Iraq and Afhanstan majority of ourt money is going there instead of our factories or new inventions for small businesses etc... Look at real wood furntiure and how much it cost versa a Ikea brand other departments stores brands etc... The jobs for now are in the Pharmacutical industry. What really get me is about 10 years ago they kept saying a teacher sortage in the next 10 to 15 years what is happening a lot teachers are loosing there jobs to ecomany and cut backs. I persoanlly think Clintons cooked the books to make us think we had a surplus when we really did not.. etc... and we are just finding this out now. Thanks and have a great day! Good luck to your husband Sincerely Unique16

My husband still has a good job but I don't know how much longer he will have it. His work keeps letting people go and is hiring people over seas, so his job could go at any time. The government really needs to work on getting companies to hire American workers. My earnings are just what I earn on line so if my husband loses his job it could be really scarry, they are saying it can take up to 8 months to find a decent job these days. Thing surely need to improve.

It's gotten really bad...I've had a cleaning business since 2001, and never had trouble getting new clients. I've never seen it so bad! I'm not sure if or when it'll turn around :(

A lot of people here in our country wanted to go to the US because of the fact that they really are going to have a better life if they live there. I have a job and its an okay job but I dont want to work here for a long time cause I wanted to have a better one. I am thinking that a better job is a job in the government.

Right now I am doing the same thing that your husband is doing. I am just glad that I actually have a job right now because I know how hard it is to find one lately. The workers that have been laid off due to downsizing have moved on to other jobs. I know that teenagers are having a hard time finding a summer job even at fast food restaurants, because they have to compete with the more experienced adults who are taking almost any job just to have something to pay the bills with.

alot of the ones here have went over seas where wages a poor and demand is high. Also companies that could hire in a lot of people are only hiring in the absolute on the people they need to run the store. Which means for example. the local wal-mart here there is rumor that it is only hiring 100 people when it needs 200 people to run the store. This is a new store that is carrying a lot of it's older folks as well. But they barely had what it needed for a regular store let alone a new super center. that's america for you

Your loss is somebody else's gain. For one, your BPOs are now either in the philippines or in India. There's just no denying that american employers are getting more by paying less if they invest here. In turn we lose our doctors and nurses who chose to work in the US because they are paid more there. So it's just like a seesaw. the losers are the daily wage earner who can lost their jobs anytime and they can't do anything about it. But consider yourself lucky kit, just count your blessings. As the say, expect the worst but hope for the best.
