I had a mixture of emotions after reading this article. I think the women were smart to a degree to have befriended these bears for the type of business they persured. I am very angry that the forest service may kill the bears because they have been so humanized. This isn't fair! I think these women should be given something more to their sentencing in leu of these animals being killed. It says the women had been feeding them for years. What are your thoughts? http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2010/08/canadian_marijuana_growing_operation_guarded_by_be.php

I am shocked that canadaian forest service would kill the bears just because they are used to humans, just move them to a place in the Canadian mountains far from civilization and they will soon be foraging for themselves. why kill them as they hurt nobody. Put the dizzy maryjane growing women in prison but sav e the bears. they were the smarter of everyone anyway. they do not deserve being killed at all.

I would think they could get a zoo to take them. It sound like they had made a definite decision as yet. I dont think they deserve to be killed either. Senseless killing is getting real old. Canadian forest service are surely smarter than this.

This is true Mykl_J, and it is sad. Not enough room for them on the places that take in animals. There are some of those around but I don't know of any that take bears.

What a waste. I mean they're living things, that if given the time could give much joy to people. I would take them in in a heartbeat and spend most of my waking hours with them.........of course I'd probably have to clear out an area to make room for them, maybe somewhere in the bedroom..........I mean we are talking 1000 plants......

i wonder why they cant put them in a zoo. or some reserve or some place people seldom go? it doesnt seem fair. they should find some way to preserve them. there must be someone. or why cant they just leave them be?

That was just selfish of them to do that to the poor bears. Most everyone knows that bears shouldn't be fed because it makes them to used to humans and that's when they get in trouble. It seems a shame that they can't do something else with the bears - maybe zoos or relocate to really dense forest, but maybe the bears can't fend for themselves very well if they have been constantly fed. It's a real shame that these animals will probably lose their lives because these women couldn't just get some big scary looking mastiffs or something.

I hope they find a zoo and send them there. I thought maybe they couldn't fend for themselves also. So unfair to the bears. Some people's selfishness is amazing.

This is a terrible situation. We have bears here and there is the constant threat that tourists will try to feed them. The thing is that once people feed bears, the bears associate people with food from then on out. One way or another. That makes them very dangerous. Most every time there has been a bear attack in the area, it has been because they had been fed before and associated a person with food. There should be a stiffer penalty on the women for sure.

Thank you! You explained this very well. I have been trying to in my answers and you found the perfect wordage. Thanks. I so agree with what you said. Sad. Tourists just don't get it. That woman needs to have the bamboo torture or something.

Well, there's no secret to how I feel about this quandrum. The poor bears are being judge unjustly. They deserve a chance. Why can they not be taken to a zoo. They would get fed there daily. They can not say that there is not one zoo that would take them. A free animal for the zoo! Come on now. Also with all of the places they have where they take animals that have been abused or tamed and they feed them daily but they are free to roam the land. Show that you have a brain and some sense of worth and find a solution for them besides just killing them. I mean this is what we could tell the authorities where these bears are.

I think that your opinion is what every one else feels too. I hope that they do the right thing.
