I am getting to the stage that i have had enough of all the different sorts of light bulbs that we have in our house.When ever a bulb blows i will nearly always replace it there and then,but no sooner have i replaced that bulb there will be another and now i have none of the right sort to go in the lights in the front room left.So now it is another trip to the store to get yet more.

I don't know whether list will help, but most of ours are low voltage halogen for bright lighting, or long life for more subtle lighting. Common areas- hall/ kitchen, are set on timed movement detectors to prevent excessive use.

I have had my wiring checked out and that is all fine,so i have ruled that out as being a problem.I think the reason that they are all blowing is that this time i am using really cheap light bulbs.I am going to go back and use the light bulbs that i use to use,even though they were alot dearer.

I'm surprised on the light bulbs. The newer, and slightly prettier, long lifes are around £1 a piece now, and do seem to last, giving slightly better light than the older ones used to.

It sounds like you have a wiring problem in your house or perhaps your light fittings themselves are getting old and corroded. We had this problem in our home a few years ago, but only in our main living areas. Once we replaced the old light fittings though, the problem was fixed.

We had all the wiring checked last month and that was all fine,thankfully.I think the reason for us getting these bulbs keep blowing are due to the cheaper light bulbs that we have been using,rather than our usual make of light bulbs.Cheaper is not always better in this case,so i will be getting our usual make of bulbs in the future.

Yeah, I know the feeling. We did the same. Bought cheap globes and they blew out, but we can afford to go through a few of them before they add up to the cost of the good ones.

How many kightsi do you use in the course of a night? I'm quite frugal in my electricity use (except for my computer) wind I also use the modern ones that use less watts and last for approximately five years. The chandlier in the dining room has all sockets filled, but I unscrewed all but two of them; that's all I need. Maybe I will screw them akin when I get company. If the same bulbs keep blowing, you may want to have the electricity checked.

Interesting - "kightsi" should be "lights.". I'm posting on my iPad again.

I have a friend that is an electrician and they have checked all of my wires in my house,nothing is wrong.I have two sets of lights that have four bulbs in each and they are the ones that mainly blow.Perhaps it is just the bulbs that i have bought,so i am now ordering bulbs from the internet.

I know. I think it is with regards the brands existing in the markets. It's really frustrating how these bulbs are not up to par.

Yeah, I noticed that one too when we started buying bulbs that are not that cheap anymore. I guess you get what you pay for.

I think that you are right,as the bulbs that keep blowing are the ones that i got when i saw them as they were really cheap.I have now ordered alot of bulbs that i use to use from a company a few years ago and they were really good,more expensive but really good light bulbs as i hardly ever had to replace them.

the real problem should be that your lamp burns out because there must be variations in stress, this can burn all the appliances, depends on how strong are the power surges, but you do not understand why this happens. It is very bad quality of the bulbs you buy? try changing the brand or are thinking of buying protection for your electrical appliances before they burn, if you really going on with the tension that you receive in your home.

I know that the bulbs that i have been using are really cheap,but when i got them they were the only ones that they had at the shop when i needed some.I think that i will be ordering the bulbs that i use to use as they seemed to last forever.So not always a good idea to buy cheap bulbs.

Coincidentally you bring this discussion as today I was explaining to my boyfriend that something has to be wrong as it seems every other day we are replacing a bulb or two. So what I was trying to explain that there must be something wrong in the wiring as any time we turn on a switch puff there goes the bulb. This happens in several different rooms. So maybe this is also occurring with you.

I have had all of the wiring checked in our house,so with that being ok i think that it maybe the case that it is the make of light bulb that i have bought.I have now sent off for my usual make,as they seemed to last alot lot longer than these ones.

Yes that would certainly be a factor if the bulbs were not a good lasting one. Great you resolved this issue for you, we on the other hand live in an old building and the wiring is a problem due to the old fibers as the landlord put it.

If that particular brand of light bulb keeps blowing, it's time to switch to another brand.. IF u really trust that brand, i guess the problem lies with either the wiring or the contact point for your bulbs ^_^ That's what happened to my friend's shop whereby her bulbs keep blowing every few days.. AFter we changed the set for her, everything is solved ^_^

I have just sorted out getting the brand of light bulb that i use to use,as i think that you are right.The light bulbs that i have been using are the ones that i got from a discounted store and they were really really cheap,i can see why now,lol.

Have you ever tried Energy Lightbulbs JJ, they are brilliant they lower the cost of your electric lighting, and last a lot longer than normal bulbs...if you have tried them and that hasn't worked I would check to see if your electrics are alright or not, other than that am lost for words....LoLo

In all the bedrooms i have got those enery saving light bulbs and they are fine,as they seem to last forever.The lights that i have down stairs like my ceiling fan lights will not take an enery saving light bulb,other wise i would have had those.I have a few other lights that can not take enery saving bulbs aswell,which is a shame.I have had all the wiring checked in my house and that is all ok.I think that it is due to me getting cheaper light bulbs.

Maybe you should think about buying some compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL's)?? My wife and I installed them in our new house when we bought it. It took a little bit of an investment to do it, because they are more expensive than incandescent bulbs, but they have been well worth the added cost. They use less electricity than old-fashioned bulbs, and they last A LOT longer than the old-fashioned ones. We bought our house in late 2006. We installed the CFL bulbs when we moved in. Amazingly, we haven't had to replace a single bulb during this time. So each bulb has lasted almost four years with no problems. I highly recommend them...

I have had the wiring checked in our house and that is all great,so i ruled out that as a problem,thankfully that did not cost us any money getting it checked as we have a friend that is an electrician.I think that it is due to the fact that we are using a really cheap make of light bulb,where as we have always used a well known brand in the past,so we are getting our usually make ion the future.

Sometimes the cheaper regular light bulbs pop and go out rather quickly. I have been getting those more expensive energy saver and I don't have that problem any more. It could also be paranormal and someone from the other side trying to contact you. I have heard of this happening before.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I think that you are right there as these bulbs that are blowing all of the time are the ones that i grabbed from a discount store while i was out one day.I use to use a dearer make and i think that they were great as they seemed to last forever,so i am going to try to order a job lot each time i need some,rather than ever using the cheaper ones.

No matter when I change them it seems like they all blow about the same time, even the different types. And of course every time I buy more it costs more.

I thought that i would have all of my wiring checked in my house and that was all ok.However i think i may have found the reason to why the light bulbs keep blowing,they are really cheap light bulbs that i got this time,where as i use to buy a dearer well know make of bulb and they were great as they hardly blew.

I have two ceiling fans in my front room and they do not take those energy saving bulbs,also i have two sets of lights that take four bulbs that are like candal bulbs that in my hall way aswell as on my landing,they also do not use energy bulbs.In the loft conversion we have halogen mini i ultra flat bulbs in the ceiling and they can not fit energy saving bulbs in them.I have got the enery saving bulbs in all of the first floor bedrooms though.I have had all of my wiring checked and that is fine,so i think that it is due to not getting my usual make of bulb,as these bulbs were very very cheap and i can see why now.

We've just gone through that recently in our house. The thing about it that really drives me insane is that the light bulbs that we were using in our house are CFL bulbs that are supposed to last for five years. Now, we've only owned our house for two and a half years and we don't use our lights on a regular basis, but still our lights don't have nearly the life that the lightbulb companies say that they will have.

I think i have discovered the problem now.I was shopping a few months ago in a discount shop and decided to get some light bulbs as they are things that we need all the time,they were great as they were really cheap.I have put different make in my lights and hope that with us going to a dearer brand like we have always had this will put the problem right.The energy saving bulbs are all ok in the bedrooms and they have been in there for at least 5 years,but not all lights can have these sorts of bulbs.

I have had the wiring checked and it is all fine,so i think it is down to the cheap light bulbs that we have bought.I saw some light bulbs that were cheap in a discount store and got them,where as we are use to a dearer brand and that maybe the reason for all the problems.

Oh I hear you. I really hate the new type of light bulbs that are suppose to last longer, I don't think they do. It seems like we are always replacing them and no we don't leave them on all the time.

I hate having to constantly replace light bulbs.I have just ordered all the bulbs that i need from the internet and they are the ones that i use to use,so lets hope these are good and do not keep blowing all of the time.I have also had all of the wiring checked in my house,just to ensure that the wiring is ok aswell.

hi jugsjugs in our last apartment the wiring was less than desirable and ordinart light bulbs just did not last so we started putting in those screwy looking ones that last for five years and really cut down on your electric bill. we replaced all with those screwed looking ones and they last and last. I don't remember what they are called but they do last and they take way less electricity too.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I have had all my wiring checked here by an electrician as this is one of the requirement that we do for buildings insurance and it is all ok.I think it is the make of bulbs that i had bought and because i got them in a hurry aswell,rather than getting the normal make that we usually use.In our other lights we have those energy saving bulbs and they seem to last forever thankfully.

Why don't you get some of the bulbs that are suppose to last for a couple of years? They're more expensive, but in the long run you are saving money and energy.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I do have a few of those energy saving bulbs that do seem to last forever in my other lights,but it is my other types of bulbs that seem to keep blowing all of the time.I think that i will get the same make as i use to,as they seem to last alot longer,rather than the make that i have just got.

As soon as a light bulb burns out and I replace it, I buy that type of bulb. That way I am never stuck in the dark without the correct bulb. Also I avoid last minute trips to the store and I hate to shop!

I am going to be getting a job lot off the internet as that way i do not have to worry about being with out the ones that i need,in the hope that the ones i am getting will last alot lot longer.

So, why it was so easy for the light bulbs to be blown? Was the circuit or something else? You should hire an electrician to check it out first, otherwise, you just waste your money keep on buying those light bulbs.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I have had all the wiring checked throughout my house and it is all fine,thankfully.I think the problems probably is the make of the bulbs that i have just bought.I have just ordered bulk light bulbs from a company that i used to use a few years ago and hope that they are as good as they use to be.

Light bulbs keep blowing I know what you are talking about it happens at my home all the time. I have a lamp that is suppose to have 5 light bulbs and it only has 1 working one.I hate it as much as you do.

My front room lights are ceiling fans and they take three bulbs each and they tend to blow alot,then there are my hall way aswell as my landing lights that take four eack they seem to blow one after the other aswell.Thankfully we have energy bulbs in our bedrooms on the first floor and they are great as they hardly blow.I have only had to replace the loft bulbs once in over 5 years.
