have or have you ever used a metal detector? IT went crazy in the barn, but part of the barn floor is metal and some of the nails in the wall are metal. He had it set for all metals.
I've heard taht when it rains, sometimes when it rains fast enough, metals get washed away, but get snagged on tree roots and rocks. I want him to try around the base of tree roots and rocks.
So if you've used one, where did you use your or a metal detector? Did you find anything interesting? Someone mostly buried glass in our barn, so it didn't help much there. Where the barbed wire fence is down, it registered. So far,it hasn't helped us much.

Nope, never used one but my neighbor has one and I really want to borrow it sometime or have him look for something for me. See, I have this old cast iron stove that was used as a model for door to door salesmen. My dad turned it into a lamp and I loved that lamp. My husband hated it and it got stored in the stupid broken down shed in the back. Years ago I brought it out and cleaned it up only to find a piece missing. I am sure it got buried under the dirt floor, but I can't find it.
As I was cleaning it, a friend who knows a lot about antiques came over and her mouth dropped when she saw my lamp. Turned out she recently saw this on that PBS antique show, (you know what I am talking about, the name escapes me right now)and it was apprised at $2,000....Of course suddenly my husband loves the lamp except the piece is still missing..And now, the last time I searched, the price has dropped drastically to $25.00...I never told my husband that though, the more he thinks it is worth money, the more likely he won't fight it if I can get a metal detector..

Good reason to find it. The show is called Antiques Road Show.

I have never used one myself but I have seen lots of people with them. At the beach when I lived in Florida there were always people walking the beach with them. I guess a lot of people apparently loose things at the beach. And also at the parks. A lot of people try to use these to find things worth cash. I think it would be fun finding stuff even if it wasn't worth anything.

I think it would be fun, too. The glass stuff we've been finding isn't worth much of anything. But the products were intereting. So I would think anything metal would be cool, too.

I have never had or used one. Someone on here a long time ago made some posts about finding things with metal detectors. Basically she said you need to go for a really good one, not an inexpensive hobby type. Hubby refuses to get one of any kind, because to him it is a hobby for a "little old man"and he refuses to go there.

It's a good walking hobbie. My husband already does golf. TV is actually a hobbie for a little old man, but most people do that. We met someone who would go on vacation and do all the beaches. He actually made a lot of $ doing it. Often paid for the trip he was on. He was paid by the hour at a Military Museum (he had to give everything he found to the museum). He did really well for them. He even found live amo and probably saved lives/arms/legs. He sound different things the soldiers or women that followed them cooked with, some other stuff, too. He thought it was a wonderful and interesting hobbie. One of the reasons my husband got one. Also, anyone should be happy to be able to walk as much as some little old men (I know some that were former military and could walk for miles) because the alternative is a nurseing home and sitting all the time. So it's use it or loose it. So what hobbies does he have? Sports? Dancing? Something with way more and faster movement? Biking? Hiking? Canoeing?
