Subbing

United States

As some of you know, my whole summer has been spent trying to find a job. While I didn't find one, I am in the system to sub for one city. I had to attend an orientation yesterday and wanted to leave. The district is small and I swear a hundred people must have been there. I'm nervous I'm not going to get a lot of jobs now. Has anyone subbed before? How many jobs do you usually get a month?

Smartie- I've submitted my CV ten times, had three interviews, and still have no teaching post for this year. It is just a tough market right now for all of us, and substitute teaching can prove very profitable. It also will give you a great deal of exposure to the world of education. You can list yourself in more than one district, and in this way diversify your chances to secure a post. And the benefit of subbing is that a principal gets the chance to see you in action and this may very well lead to a full time job. Keep up your spirits. Something will work out. Namaste-Anora

You have to stop being negative. That usually gets you to give up. Just think positive, dont give up, buff up your resume, apply on almost all the jobs you can fit it in, and put your best upon interview. If ever it doensn't work out, try again. If your tired, just rest but don't give up.

Sorry to hear you are looking for a job, I don't know your history. I taught for 28 years in England. I am now semi-retired, just writing articles full-time now. I never did any subbing, but saw it from the other side of the fence and it ain't easy. I wrote an article you might find interesting... http://www.infobarrel.com/Classroom_Management_Tips,_Advice_and_Strategies_for_Substitute_teachers
