I wonder what people are thinking sometimes...

I recently had to deal with kids coming into my yard after my dogs. The first time it ever happened, I had just let my dogs outside on their tie outs, and I was gunna watch some tv. All of a sudden, I hear a voice saying 'help me!' I run outside and these kids are standing in my yard and my little min pin, Geisha, is terrified of them and running around in circles. I asked them what they were thinking. They said they just wanted to pet her. meanwhile, my two bigger dogs; Abbey(Golden Retriever) and Babey(Black Lab/Border Collie Mix), are going insane! My dogs are very friendly, but still! Why would these kids just come onto my yard?!?! What had happened was Geisha's tie out wrapped around the girls legs. She was untangled when I got outside. I told them that if they really wanted to pet them, all they had to do was come to my door and ask me. Then, just last week, I was upstairs when I saw two kids start laying their bikes down in front of my house. I was confused. Then, I saw them run into my yard with what I though were water guns. (I later found out they were DART guns!) I hollered out the window and startled them. I ran outside and asked them what they thought they were doing. They said they were just playing a game as they ran to their bikes. I told them to not come near my dogs with guns of any kind again. Then, their mom showed up saying they were NERF guns and nothing dangerous and I had no reason to worry... What are your guys' thoughts? Do you think this as insane as I do? or do you think I over reacted? Any thoughts on how to keep the kids out of our yard? we are saving for a privacy fence, which will help with the problem.

I'm sure you didn't over reacted. It is normal to protect your dogs as long as you decided to take care of them. In my country every property has a fence, and children don't enter others yards without permission, because there are gates and they are usually locked. I wonder if there is no law to punish those children. I mean, you may not need to call the cops indeed, but at least you can tell those naughty children you are going to call the cops, maybe they will be scared and they will stop bothering you.

In all three of those instances, those children have not been properly taught. For one thing, they should not go in other people/s yards, they do not know you!! You might be the old wicket witch from Hansel and Gretel. For another thing, those on bikes should be on the street, not on your property, and the others have all said what they think about the toy darts. Since you know where their mother is, she needs to know that the next time you will call the police and if the kids are gone, you will give the address. Maybe you need signs that say "No Trespassing" What are they thinking? Nothing. They have brain rot.

I yelled at kids all the time, and I did not even have dogs. They thought my yard was the short cut to Dairy Queen when it was across the street. Some children of Prominent Citizens liked to take bike rides through from the alley to the street. I did not want the liability on my property. I told them I was going to call their parents, and if the parents did not answer, I would call the police, I knew where they lived.

As a kid, I used to go around yards in my neighborhood. But, I always knew who the people were and i NEVER went into a yard where people had dogs. I was taught to treat all life with respect. Funny thing is, I told my fiance that no one was going to go near my house sooner or later. When I yelled at them, it was more of a growl haha I told him that I was going to be known as the weird psycho animal lady sooner or later haha

That mother is an idiot. If those kids came into my yard ever again bothering my pets, I would let her and her husband know, in no uncertain terms, that I would prosecute and she could visit her brats in Juvenile Hall or wherever they take kids in your town. You might consider installing cameras around your house. I would not trust those little demons.

get a tazer, not for the dogs but for those little brats. if anyone was screwing with my dog id grab em by the scruff of their neck and drag em down to their parents house and let them know next time it's trespassing and your calling the cops.

We did call the cops because this isn't the first time. Once, we had a friend staying here while we went out and she said that kids kept walking by and taunting the dogs. We spoke to the police and they told us to not hesitate at all to call them. They said they know who the kids are.

Our pets are placed in our care and this must be taken very seriously, there are to many crazy people out in the world these days that might cause harm to themselves or the animals if allowed access.

That is my thought! My pets are my children. I am very protective of them. All of my animals are rescues and have been abused in some way shape or form. Except my min pin, we got her as a puppy to get her away from careless owners. It just really gets me hot when people don't care. especially when those kids' mom came and said it 'wasn't dangerous'.

But that woman would be the first one calling the police if her kids got hurt in your yard. She is not thinking at all. Welcome to MyLot, this is a good discussion.
