Have you ever succeeded in breaking a bad habit?

I've made it my personal goal in life to improve myself as much as possible. This means giving up bad habits, and making good ones. So far I have successfully quit biting my nails, quit smoking cigarettes, quit smoking pot, and quit letting fear take over my life. All of these things took several attempts to successfully quit. It usually takes me three sincere attempts at quitting a bad habit before I am successful. I still need to quit overeating and sleeping in too late! What do you need to quit doing? what have you already quit?

Congrats on all your accomplished goals. Me I am working on quitting smoking, although it does not help that my boyfriend buys them for me even though I tell him not too.

I have to try harder I suppose. But I am determined to quit. In fact my boyfriend is an actor and will be leaving for a tour at the end of October for 3 months so that might just be the right time to give it up completely. Wish me luck.

Thank you :) It's hard... when I quit my husband still smoked, and he was no help. He bought them for me too, and would ask me to hold his for him!

It is hard to breaking out with a bad habit, and it needs hard work, specially discipline. some people said, you need around 3 month to make a new habit and get rid a bad habit.

Yes it surely takes practice and sincere effort. And then after you quit you have to remind yourself every so often not to start again!

It sounds like you have accomplished a lot already! I am trying to stop sleeping in as well as under eating. I will sometimes go all day without eating anything. Which, of course, is just as bad as over eating. I'm doing with the getting up earlier and staying up. But I also need to go to bed at a decent hour.

Sounds like you have an abundance of energy! Yes, under eating can be just as unhealthy as over eating. Good luck with quitting that.

I have quit smoking, although I wasn't a heavy smoker. I've incorporated exercise in my life and do it almost daily. I've quit many negative relationships. I have yet to quit my fears.

Fears are VERY hard to overcome. I don't know if you can ever make them go away, but you can take authority over them and tell them they have no power over you. That's what works for me anyway. I treat them as though they are actual people and tell them to go away!

Congratulation to you! I want to say it is difficult to get rid of some bad habits. As for me, when I was studied in the middle school that I like to sleep very much. Though I'm not fat at all,I just like done it even at the classes. This phenomenon not only scolded by my teachers, but also made me missed a lot of important courses. So I decided to get rid of it. Then I didn't stayed up late any more, and gone to bed regularly in every day. After three months, I was successfully.

That's nice to hear that you have been able to quit all those bad habits you have in your life. As for me, I am still in the process of quitting my smoking habits. I started to quit a few months ago. 6 months I guess. I can still feel the urge of wanting just one puff.. but I'm glad that I'm able to control myself not to anymore.

Congratulation then! It's not easy to break bad habbits, but if you are able to do that, means everybody can! So far I've been able to quit sleeping late. It was, in fact, a big problem as I was always sleepy in the morning and my parents always complained as I was not there to greet them when they went to work. How to do that? Well, I sleep earlier and always try to be as relaxing as possible. One bad habbit that I haven't been able to fix is that when I am reading a novel, it's quite difficult to stop, and I even ignore my parents' call because of that.

I do succeed in breaking my bad habit. I always slept so night that be late for the work next day and with a bad state. The worse is my health, it took me to see a doctor. Under the doctor's advice and my family's help, I become used to a good sleep.
