Planning a wedding!

My boyfriend's mom is about to get married again (this is only her second marriage), and she is already planning her wedding. She just got engaged today, but she is on the ball with what she wants. My question to everyone here is: a) If you have been married, what did you do for your wedding? Basically, how did you plan it? Who did you talk to, and what was your wedding like? b)If you have never been married, what would you like your wedding to be like and how would you plan it? Example:For me, if I were to ever get married, I want to wear a green wedding dress. Yes, that's right, I want a green wedding dress because I can't stand white. I want my wedding to be green. I love green. I want Frank Sinatra played at my wedding, and I want it to be in the afternoon. I want to have it at this convention center that my boyfriend and I always go to, and I want to have a wedding cake with Magic the Gathering characters on it since that is the card game my boyfriend and I love to play.

Well, I am from India and I am already married. My marriage was done in the traditional way as many other marriages of India. It was by the Hindu tradition where the priests conducted the marriage. I chose to have a coat and suit for my marriage unlike some choosing Silk dhoti and silk shirt. One thing I am not satisfied with the function was it was held in the early hours of the day from 6.15 a.m. to 6.45 a.m.

Why was it held so early in the morning? In America, we try to have weddings later in the day so that everyone can make it to the ceremony.

Sounds complicated and it sounds like a hassle. So, that means that everyone would have to show up at least a day or two before the wedding, right?

We plan the time according to the auspicious time for the bride and bridegroom. Astrologers help us to fix that time. In my case, there was one more marriage on the next day for a close relative of my wife. So, we had to fix my marriage one day before and the time had to be early.

Sounds like you have it all planned out. I hope you get your dream wedding. We actually visited a lot of banquet halls to decide where we wanted the reception. We had the actual wedding at church I was a member of. We chose the banquet hall we liked the most. We had 150 guests and a banquet dinner. Our theme was wedding bells. I had a white princess dress with a poofy bottom, which was more in style then, then it is now. My veil sort of resembled a small tiara with lace flowing from it.

Sounds very traditional. That's cool. Many of my friends and I are trying to stay away from the traditional stuff. I am not a big fan of traditional weddings, but if that is what people want I am not one to judge. I know how I get bored at traditional weddings (sorry, this is just how I am), and I would never wish that on people who have to attend my wedding, so I want my wedding to be as fun and as memorable as humanly possible. I have seen people get married at the Conventions. There was a nice one at the Star Wars Conventions and the whole 501st Storm Trooper Unit was there. The husband was dressed at Darth Vader and the wife was dressed as Queen Amadala. It was so cool. The Star Trek weddings are just as fun. You get married by Klingons or Captains and you get your choice of a Klingon wedding or a Federation Wedding. I like it when people think outside of the box for their weddings.

Well, that's your choice because we are the one who choose what we like and want to our wedding. Maybe light green is good with you and looks fabulous. But you need to wear the tubeless so that all your bridesmaid will looks also good. Shoulder off is best.

I don't know about "tubeless", don't think that I have ever heard of that. I just know that I want it to be green, and since I want to get married at the Comic Convention that my boyfriend and I love, I think my bride's maids are probably going to be my friends who love to cosplay, and if they want to cosplay, I'm going to let them do that. What about YOUR wedding? What would you do if YOU were going to get married?

Singing for you on your wedding day? Are you sure that you want that? He better be a really good singer. If my boyfriend were to recite the "Green Lantern" oath that would make my day. The beach is a great place to have a wedding.

Okay, that's all cool. By the way, no one has to be getting married right now, you could be getting married 10 years down the line, or 15 years down the line. This is like a "What if?" What if YOU were to get married? What would YOU do for a wedding? You said that you want white, and that you like white, and that you want to get married between 4PM and 7PM which is considered evening, and that's great. Now question: You said that you are from China, right? In China, don't you have to wear red for your wedding day? I heard that from some of my Chinese friends, so I am just wondering if that is true?

Oh, silver sounds nice, and an open gown is totally awesome. Even though you are 19, you can still dream about what you would want to do for your wedding.

Well.. I have never got married before, so I think the first marriage should be the biggest. But it will be different if it is for the second marriage. I think it doesn't have to be too big, especially if you have an adult son (your boyfriend), but it doesn't mean it's not important. Having the sacred and sweet wedding party will be enough, by inviting the closest relatives and friends... It doesn't have to be a big ballroom and of course, they don't need bachelor and bachelorette parties, right?
