Why do people write/read blogs?

For some years now I've been trying to understand this fascination with keeping blogs and twitting and stuff like that. And I have to admit that as much as I like mylot or forums, or writting in general, they have no appeal to me and I....can't understand them. It's like keeping a diary and having everyone read it! If you look at the number of blogs out there ..you start thinking...are there THAT MANY people with something actually interesting to say? I mean so interesting that they have something to write about everyday or every few days? And Twitter!...*sigh* I have some friends that when are out in town with the rest of us, just stay and twit from there cells to tell people where they are and what they're doing. Who cares?!?! And WHY should they care? I really don't understand that. I go to meets with people from some forums I'm active on almost every weekend. And we have a lot to share. But to twit or blog daily?!? Why in God's name would I wanna do that? Don't get me wrong, I just want to better understand this phenomenon. Maybe you myloters can help me figure it out. Happy posting!

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I honestly do not get very personal blogs, and I think most of them are kind of useless, but I do like blogs that are about a specific topic, such as making money online or fashion (my favorites) or sports or whatever. They are a great way to get in touch with people who have the same interests as you. So I like blogs like that!

"Personal" blogs usually do not do well in terms of traffic. But I think the problem is not really about the blogger being too personal. In fact, the search engine cannot really tell if a blog is personal or not. But search engines do know that blogs contain keywords. So, a personal blog that discusses iPhones, iPods and other Apple products could do well on the internet. And it shouldn't be surprising that like any website, blogging is really all about the keywords.

Hello puccagirl and blogeroo! This is exactly why i started this topic. Because it's the blogs you call "personal" that I don't understand. I mean the ones that just keep track of someones life events and stream of thoughts...Online diaries if you wish. Those are the ones i don't understand. The ones with a certain topic I guess are pretty ok , especially if they put proper keywords so that you can find them easily. Though I much rather prefer exchanging opinions on forums because there you have several topics and many discussions on the same topic from which you can better choose. And you can reach more people that way. Thank you for your opinions and happy posting!

Simple. People have something to say so they publish. Technology made it possible for just about anybody with a computer and internet connection to publish his/her own publication. And blogs became the media of the masses. Actually, every website on the internet is a publication. And everybody online is publishing something. We just don't notice it because we classify websites into blogs, forums, wikis, twitter (or micro-blogs), and so on. But in reality, there is little difference between a post here at myLot and a post in my blog. So technically, you are "blogging" as well or more precisely, you are publishing.

Hello again blogeroo :) It's not actually the publishing part that puzzles me, but the monologue people have ion blogs. I get the whole exchanging ideas thing like here on my lot or on forums. And I like it. But in such mediums, you can get a much wider coverage than on a blog. This is what i actually meant : if you want to exchange ideas, why not log into a more virtual interactive environment like a forum rather than talk by yourself on your blog and struggle to promote it in order to make your ideas known?

i think the reason why people do bother to write and create their blogs is because they find blogs and write blogs is this is the only way they can express themselves, they can be anonymous, they can choose to be the person they really are and not pretend and not try to please anyone... right?

I have a blog on of the social networking sites that I have joined, but I hardly ever use it. I haven't written anything for a very, very long time. When I still wrote new entries the other members sometimes commented on the topics that I had been writing about, and I liked that. I found it interesting to hear about their opinions and their experiences. Sometimes I started exchanging emails with the members who commented and we became friends. I think that the interaction with other members that my blog lead to is the thing that I liked the most about it, but I also enjoyed writing about my thoughts and expressing my experiences.

Hello novelcai! I know there are people that make money with their blogs. Those I understand. I mean the ones that promote sites or want hits or stuff like that. The ones that I don't understand are those who just post their daily "adventures". If you have talent and want to write, why not try a novel or short story and publish them? That way you can use your talent and let others promote you. As for answers you can find on the net,you might be right. Thank you for the insight :) Happy posting!

Actually there is nothing wrong to update of what they are doing or where they would go because sometimes it can help other people to know if they are available or not. I mean it can be out of the town or something else. But we must admit that some of them are just plain attention seekers that we can't anything to do with them but to ignore those pathetic loser. In blogging almost daily I think it is because of earnings as well if they designated into it.

Many of the blogs give actual information and are not just diaries. I would not put down what I do during the day on a blog either. For me, it is none of their business and besides I do not want to be responsible for people going into deep depression because they read the boring things I did all day. There are a lot of people who have interesting subjects, but it is not that the subject or what they do that is mundane, it is that the people themselves are considered not important enough. So I could write the recipes I invented or that I can make up a song on the piano, but I am not that important so they will not appear on Coles or in the other bookstores. So I would rather tell of it on a blog. I would not twit or blog all the time, with twit, I am not a professional and do not own a business, nor am important enough and with blogging, I am too busy here on myLot and other stuff to do more then add something now and then.

Hi there, i do have a blog for almost a year now but just addicted recently. I enjoy posting anything on my blog. I used to blog about my life experiences including my journey in making money online. Anyway, through blogging I can express myself and learn new things everyday. I guess being a blogger is something that you should have passion for you to understand what it really means for you. Another thing is that were not only posting what's happening on us but we actually earned through blogging. I hope i can make sense here, happy mylotting

Haha, I understand. I do keep a blog but, BUT, I seldom update it. I have left it untouched for almost a year! Recently, I felt bored so I went to change the blogskin. Actually, to be honest, I also don't know why I kept a blog. Since I didn't even bother to update why bother to keep it? But there's something we have to know. It's the thing that we keep track of everyday. It's our everyday life which we keep track everytime, so it somehow serves as a backlog for us. Conventional diaries are outdated already, although some people like me, also do keep it. Times have changed. People are going along with the trend. When others have something, "I" also want to have something. This is the mentality of people nowadays. People read/write blogs is solely for the purpose to keep themselves occupied that's all. Like Facebook, my friends all read others' wall. Even for me, I also find it boring. Same sentiments as you, why bother to read other peoples' wall, finding out what they have been doing??? I know it's kind of lame but we've to understand that it's a kind of entertainment for people now. It's the newest toy in town, haha.

Hi there.:) For some writing is their passion and whether it is a blog or a book or an article in magazines or newspapers as long as they have access to those things, they will not hesitate to write their thoughts and feelings. It is also a way, a productive way to let time passed. This is what my husand did when he was living all by his lonesome when I returned to the province because I was pregnant. Then, eventually, he discovered that he can earn money by monetizing his blog so he keeps on writing and, yes, it is making money for him. :) As for me, I write because it is my way of unleashing my thoughts and hidden emotions. I can write anything without someone telling me what or what not to write. A blog is a diary. Though, right now I am working on a blog wherein I can make a difference out of someone else's life. God willing.:)

I really don't get it much either I just like to mylot to earn my money on here and that's it and I think that people love to blog and twit because they want peopel to read about their life or what they are doing and I think that it is ok if that's what they want. SO everybody likes to do their own things as for me I don't think that I would like to twitter a lot just to tell people what I am doing I don't think that it's much of interest what I do in my life it's pretty much the same routine day after day so it's pretty boring oh well.

I read different blog topics most of the times and I just select the site with posted stories. I like to read stories a lot particularly love stories and I want the true to life stories about love and I would like to know how real people deal with all of the problems they encounter. So personally speaking I would just like to read stories from blog sites. But I still am not able to post stories of my own.
