My daughter was 3 back in April & as alot of you know, she normally doesn't go to sleep unless someone is laying down with her but this past week, she has been taking herself to bed!! Most of the time, she will turn her tv on & play one of her dvd's & just fall asleep in bed or she will just crawl into bed in the dark (she has a night light on all the time) & go to sleep that way! I guess to me, this is howing me that she is growing up! I think this is a great thing...after she has a bath of a night, I give her a cuddle & a kiss & tell her good night & she just goes to bed The only sad thing is that my "baby" is frowing up.

It is sad to see that our babies are growing up, but it is also a good thing to see as well. My son is going to be four next month and he really is growing up far too fast in my opinion. He is taking himself to bed and he is completely potty trained (I don't miss buying diapers at all). However, it does make me sad that he doesn't need me in nearly the same capacity that he did just a short time ago. Kids really grow up too fast in my opinion.

I agree, it is sad to see our babies grow up but at the same time it's great to see them grow & learn. I too don't miss buying diapers lol.

Well, congratulations! At least your daughter is able to rely on herself now. I have some relatives whose child even needs coaxing to sleep and they're about 6.

Sometimes my daughter needs to be told to go to bed but she's not too bad.

From my experience with kids they all seem to suddenly reach the time when they settle down. One day they are complete little pains, next they instantly settle down! I am pleased for you that at l.ast you are getting as little peace of an evening - but as you say you baby isn't a baby anymore!!

Gee, 3 years old and learning to be independent. Pretty soon she won't need you at all. What happened to nurturing children and having a routine. What happened to quality time spent with your child. Are DVDs and television shows the new "parents" of children? They seem to be the baby sitters and the teachers. I think this is very sad.

By no means do I use dvd's as a baby sitter...this is her wanting to watch it...she is only allowed a certain amount of time to watch tv a day....other than that, we are always doing something together like gardening, craft, walking, playing games, etc..

Hi, It is a great achievement for your daughter and you should reward her with some stickers or her favourite toy as she has done a great job. For my son, he also sleep by himself. I don't have habit to sleep with him for nap and night time. When he feel sleepy, he will go to bed by himself.of course, I will give him a good night kiss before he goes to bed. I will get everything ready for him like make him his milk, brush teeth and change his pyjamas.

You are lucky that your son will have a day time sleep as my daughter stopped them back in January.

It suddenly happened. Right? That is how they grow. You will find them suddenly on their tummy, sitting, standing, walking all these activities one sees where no notice is given. And the most exciting thing will be when they suddenly say 'Mama'!!

Thats really good! Excellent actually. I wish my daughter was like that- but probably a bit early to expect it from her- she is about to turn 2. Her daddy and me need to be both in bed and she wants a story and songs to listen too. Quite often she wants to eat or to go to toilet, just to extent some of her time being awake. But you are right, they are growing up so quickly, becoming independent..so we should really enjoy this time, even though its exhausting sometimes..
