Does your family buy a Chrstmas tree? Or do you have Christmas without the tree? Personally I like Christmas with a proper tree but I can't but help think about all those trees getting cut down only because of a holiday. It would be millions of trees every year. Soon we would be all out of fir trees. What do you think, Christmas tree of no Christmas tree?

Ever since i was a child my family always celebrated christmas with a christmas tree. it didn't always have to be the biggest one or the grandest one. it just had to be a tree that the family decorated with love. Now that I am grown with a family of my own, we still celebrate my childhood Christmas traditions/

It's always nice to spend Christmas with your family. It shows caring for each other and it is good to know that not all have forgotten the Christmas traditions =).

We haven't had a tree at home for the last couple of years - partly through laziness and partly because I was working on Christmas day, which annoyed another member of the household to the extent that he said there was "no point". However, I visited my son a few days after Christmas each year & he had put an artificial tree up so Christmas was not totally lost

Working on Christmas day? Oh Lord, that's harsh. Everyone should have a free day then or even a free week. I remember when we had a tree and when we decorated it was such a joy and at the same time such a pain. The tree had to be just so and nothing but perfect would do. Unfortunately we never got the hang of lighting the candles on the tree. The branches just didn't bear the weight of them =). But I'm glad you still have Christmas with your family. It really is the time to celebrate with family.

I was fine with working on Christmas day & we could hardly leave the patients to take care of themselves They do try to get everyone who is fit enough home for Christmas so there are usually a few less to look after but it can still get pretty busy. I would like to have Christmas in a cosy cottage somewhere with a log fire and traditional tree

er generally get a fresh Christmas tree (not every year though, only if we are having people over) from IKEA which is a furniture store. they have trees in their lot and only charge $20- and give you a gift certificate for the store too. other years we put up our old stand by fake tree.

So you buy real tree when you will be having visitors. It's actually quite nice, if you want to make the visitors feel comfy and Christmas-y at your home. Wonderful idea =)

I have always had the same fake tree ever since I can remember. I remember my friends would talk about the smell of their trees, and I didn't understand this when I was a child because mine just smelled of plastic! Hahah. I'm glad that i was raised with it so that I wouldn't feel any nostalgia from the real ones so that I wouldn't be the one cutting trees just for decoration. maybe you can plant one out side your house and use that every year... just for outside?

Lol, I just had the image of a tree growing outside with snow all around and few people dancing around the tree, celebrating Christmas. But it is sad to be raised without the smell of fir tree. Even few branches makes to room smell good. On the other hand, one year you have a real tree and the next you don't... Oh my, the nostalgia is overwhelming.

The last 3 years I have been buying a tree each year. I used to have a large one that was pre-lit but when we moved from Florida we could not fit everything in our moving truck so we donated it to the local Goodwill Store.

Have you been buying real trees? What do you do with them afterwards?

We already have a white Christmas tree but it is made out of a plastic material. I like it because our Christmas and I have the same height. When I was a kid, we had a small Christmas tree still made of plastic material but with green leaves. Most families here in our country use Christmas trees made out of plastic material.

Ooh a white tree. I've seen them but we never had one. It leaves the impression it's cover with snow doesn't it? I wouldn't know which tree to buy, green or white. I think I'd take both.

Yep, same here. If the people could burn the trees afterwards, it would be better. It would give them... I don't know - a purpose perhaps, a feeling, the tree didn't die just for nothing. It is a pity to see all these "skeletons" in January, or even in February, waiting for being carried away with other garbage. I like the smell of a natural Christmas tree but a couple of branches are enough.

I agree with burning the trees afterwards. Better yet, it would be wonderful if people living in house with chimney could burn the tree as fire wood.

I would go with artifical as it saves you money in the long run.I you are a fan of tradition you could go for a real tree but you will have to take it to the dump when it starts turning brown. An advantage with an artifical tree other than it being cheaper and saving you a trip to the dump is the fact that artifical trees have no odor, well most don't compared to a real tree, some people find the smell of a real tree to strong.

I don't agree with the odor of fir tree, I find it incredibly freshening. But what you said about dumping the tree when it starts to brown, it really is terrible. In city there should be a place where the whole community could take them and burn them. Just leaving them some place is just terrible.

We always had a tree every Christmas and we usually put it up anytime before my mom's birthday which is the 19th of November. Some people find it a bit early but it seems that we used a lot of energy putting it up, we might as well enjoy it longer. =D I understand how you feel about cutting trees. I suggest you use artificial ones to save trees. There are a lot of nice looking artificial trees now. They come in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some are traditional while others are so fancy that they come with built in lights. We always used artificial christmas trees in the house. I especially like it with lots of lights.

Wow, you put the tree up so early? We put the tree up in the beginning of December. It's the cleaning up the decorations thats giving the trouble. One memorable year I didn't put them away until April. Or was it May? Can't remember, it was late into the year anyway. But I agree with the artificial tree with lights. We used to put electrical lights on the tree but I was afraid to over heat the tree and burning down the place. So we put the lights on only we sit down to eat the dinner.

Here in our country it is a tradition to put christmas tree during christmas season. But our trees are just the artificial tree. I can't imagine our house without christmas tree it will be a lonely christmas specially for the kids.

You are absolutely right. When I was a kid I looked forward to Christmas tree. I liked to discover the presents under it. I still do look forward for the tree and the present. The are some thing a person never gets tired of.

It's nice to have a real Christmas tree on winter holidays. The trees that are sold during that time of the year are grown especially for being cut for Christmas trees. Of course there are bilions of trees that are being cut, but this doesn't mean we will run out of fir trees. People who are in Christmas trees business take care to have a crop for every Christmas.

That's so relieving to know. I actually thought some men go to the forest with axes on their shoulders and start cutting down the trees. But the trees are grown especially for Christmas... It's still hard to believe that the trees would grow so fast as to be cut down in few years. But that's just me =)

Definitely with Christmas tree. It is a tradition and it will be pity not to keep it. It brings the spirit with it, I cannot imagine Christmas without a tree which is beautifully ornamented. If you are concerned about trees getting cut, there are two solutions. Either you by a plastic tree or you plant a tree in a patchwork and these way you can use it every year, without the need of buying a new one. This way you save some money and can buy more gifts and save a tree everyday. And you can suggest others to do the same. That way many of threes could be saved from being cut down.

We used to have a real tree. Then I got the idea: poor trees. So we had plastic tree for a few years. Now we hast buy some branches to put on a table and then decorate in. Plastic just don't smell as good as real thing. But I still think poor trees.

My family always has a Christmas tree. It is a great tradition for the whole family to go out and pick out a tree. We have had many fond memories at the Christmas tree farm. One year, we even bought a tree with the bulb and roots. After Christmas was over, we planted the tree in our back yard. It is huge now. I still look at it and think of that Christmas. For me, Christmas isn't about the gifts I get or the gifts I give, it is about the love of the family and the memories we share, decorating the tree and having dinner together with friends.

That is great to hear. Going out, buying a tree and planting it in the back yard. Truly wondrous in these days. And Christmas really should bring forth memories of Christmas spent with family and the joy we feel.
