Otter pops...

Well I was walking along the American River bike path today. I walk about 25 minutes - half an hour, and there is this path that leads to 4 picnic tables overlooking the river. I usually sit there in the shade for about 5 minutes watching the water, and then I walk back. I see a lot of birds, and once I saw a rabbit. Today I heard a lot of splashing in the water and I looked down and thought, "what's that?" For a second I thought seals, then I realized they were otters. Yep, three of them fishing in the water. Every so often one of them would come up with something shiny, no doubt a fish. Oh why oh why does my camera phone not have a zoom on it? I walked all the way back to the office with a big smile on my face. They otter pop up more often. :D

And Dawny forgets to take pics AGAIN. Get a new phone, WITH ZOOM. I wanted to see that. Good for one to be so close to nature. Very relaxing, isn't it. TATA.

I knew you'd be here to point that out. Do cell phone cameras come with zoom?

Wow! An otter, how adorable! I once saw a seal up close and personal at Oban in Scotland, kind of the "resident seal" that everyone up there knew. Very cute. Never seen an otter though. Lucky you!

I've seen seals and sea lions before, sea otters too, but never a river otter in the wild.

I reckon you should buy yourself a digital camera. I've got one and I'm amazed at how much they've come down in price during the last couple of years. Not so sure if that's the case in the US but it's worth considering. I carry mine with me in my bag all the time, but don't always use it of course!

You live in such a lovely place and have some lovely walks along the river. That's enough to give me a feeling a serenity but you see the most wonderful scenes of nature. There's always something unusual happening...not unnatural but you know what I mean...you get to see great stuff. Try and remember to take your regular camera with you next time ok?

Okay. Okay. Joke's over! I will soon find out how to do it but tell me something. If you met a cow on your walks at lunchtime then would consider this to be udderly delightful?

Neat! Nowhere here where we'd see otters (only otter pops - hee hee - which, by the way, I have not had in years). I have never taken a pic or video with my phone yet . . . I always carry our digital camera with me everywhere I go (for some reason I can work a digital camera better than all the doo dads of a cell phone). I wonder if otters would like otter pops - hee hee!

At least they are small enough now that it won't be too burdensome to stick in your purse or even your pocket. Remember the old honker film cameras??!!

Well I won't be getting a cell phone with a zoom camera any time soon, so I should make a point of bringing my regular camera with me...

Hi, dawnald.. We should always carry a camera with us. Who knows when some rare animal pops up just before our eyes. Or some rare human..or whatever.. I will have to buy a digital camera sooner or later.. I hope sooner..

Ah.....they otter! Just so you have some entertainment and I bet they were!! I love watching different animals...just watching their habits. Every morning lately though I have to scurry through one of the blocks because there is a house situated by the side of the road and lately guess what's playing in their yard? Some really cute little skunks...they are babies yet....but I don't slow down to watch them as I am afraid mama is close and might do a business on my car!

That must have been so cool to see! I have never seen an otter other than the zoo of course. I bet you had a difficult time going back to work. I would have wanted to sit there and watch them.

How neat, that would have been something that I would have loved to have seen, but seeing as how I live in a landlocked state, I never have the opportunity to see otters or any other type of sea life. I am jealous. But, I did take a long, meandering walk the other day with my family and we did have the opportunity to walk right by some horses in their field and some cows as well. It is really nothing out of the ordinary for Kentucky, but to be that close to the was something different for us.

These were river otters, actually, though I have seen sea otters from a great distance (an in an aquarium)...
