Although I don't have any complaints about my real name, I did give myself a new name back in high school. All my friends call me with this name I've given myself. It's a way for me to separate friends from just acquaintances. I even have a signature made up with this name, which I use at work.

Your name is lovely with full academic meaning. But names are not our choice. It is given by our parents according to their whims and fancies but mostly they name a child either after some God or a saint or as with wonderful meaning like yours. The name is essentially meant for personal identification only. It serves no other purpose. But we attach great importance to the name.Parents sit together and look at the various name either for the boy or the girl and decide on the best name which both like.Though a good name is given to the child many times the parents call by their pet name and not by real name.Similarly as the child grows up friends and relatives call him or her by a different name altogether. We are supposed to love our name whether we like it or not. After they grow up some people change their names depending on various considerations..the present name is not lucky or it is not modern like that. Many people do not change ..may be due to respect for parents or why change attitutude. I am a Hindu and my name is Chayapathy... the name of Sun God according to our tradition.Chaya Devi is the wife of Sun God chayapathy is the husband of Chaya Devi.It seems my grand father who liked and admired a person by name chayapathy. So he insisted naming me as chayapathy. That is how my name has come. The person who was admired by my grand father was famous an enlightened. But I am not... but the name remained with me

Tank you for appreciating my response. I just now another funny incident i my life. You know my as chayapathy,, husband of chaya Devi.I had a bank account in which my salary used to be credited. Therefore I used to visit the bank once in a month. On one visit the clerk told me that the new officer, a lady, wanted to meet me in person but she was out on that day. In my next visit I enquired the clerk whether the lady officer was there. He went inside and told her.She came out and after seeing me for while she smiled and went to her room without speaking or asking me any question.Being in the Incometax department I thought she would ask some clarification about her tax matter.I was surprised. After she left I asked the clerk why she smiled and went away. Do you what he said Her name is "Chaya Devi"... {wife of chayapathy.}.

I never liked my name especially when I was a child. At school I would find that there would be three or four of us sharing the same name, only that our names are spelled differently. The most confusing part is that our names would be pronounced the same way. In order to avoid confusion, teachers would call us by our last names and so the other children would follow suit. So all throughout my grade school and high school I was known through my last name. As I grew older and started working I began to like my name. It's because I can now use a nickname and everybody now calls me by my nickname, not by my last name. This includes my high school friends who have somehow learned to use my first name instead of my last name.

Hi Bich Diep. Your name is nice. :) I am Vietnamese too but I was born and raised in the United States. I have never been to Vietnam before but I plan on sometime. My parents go though but I could not because I have to go to school. My name is Mai and obviously you know what it means - flower. I love my name but I wish my parents named me an American name as well.. they were supposed to name me Michelle but they didn't because they thought it was unfair to name me an American name along with a Vietnamese name when my older sister only has a Vietnamese name. So, I only have one name but my nickname for an American name is Michelle :) I like it.

I can't say I don't like coz it's given to me by my parents. Last time when I was young, about 5 or so, I didn't like the name coz it doesn't sound good to me. But I've come to realize that there probably has a meaning inside, which was why my parents chose it, right?

i don't :( but it's fine with me, nothing i can do about it anyway. it's a mix of my dad's and mom's name because i'm the eldest. then my second name was taken from one of the prettiest pageant candidates during the year i was born (according to my dad). well the second name is actually a famous sexy star's name here, so i don't think it sounds good for me because i'm a bit on the conservative side and my friends would always tease me about it. thank god for my nick name. i prefer to have it as my real name hehe.

I like my name because it is vey unique, however when I was in college I have seriously thought of having it changed because it sounds more like a man's name. It is from the Bible and it was from a woman but people still dont recognize it.

I love my unique hispanic name as no one anywhere has my name. Due to myLot guidelines I will not post it here, but I can share that where I was born the nurses did not speak Spanish so they named me as It sounded to them and it is completely spelled wrong, but it has made me feel unique and special.
