In life there are things that scare people

I am scared of spiders and there are people just like me that are also scared of them.Well my son is soo scared of a shower, aswell as a shower head,he will not have a shower,so it looks like we are stuck with a bath upstairs, instead of having it as a shower room.I have been advised that a shower would be better for my skin,so that is why we were going to have a shower fitted, now we know that we will not have one of those.Funny what things scare people,.but they do not scare anyone else.

Oh jugs, I'm not a spider person either, yuk! I'm glad I live on the second floor as I don't get too many here in the apartment, thank goodness. I take showers all the time, in fact, I can't remember when the last time was I took a bath. But actually, a bath sounds good right now just to soak in as I feel sore. Maybe your son doesn't like the water going in his face and splashing all around him. Or maybe the water pressure is too high for him and it kind of hurts? Who knows, but I'm sure as he gets older he'll change his mind as he is little yet.

Right, it is more of a dislike than a phobia. They do have the shower heads where you can adjust the pressure to different settings. I know I don't like a hard spray beating down on me, whereas other people do. It actually hurts my skin so I can imagine how it feels on a little one. Good luck, I'm sure he'll be fine though eventually.

Even if there is no water on or out of the shower head he hates it.I had a problem with him when my friend took him swimming as they have showers that you have to walk through and he screamed the place down.He is going swimming with the school soon,so i hope that he is not like that for them when he has to walk through the showers to get to the pool.

I share your fear of spiders. It is not really a fear, but a strong dislike. I have never heard of anyone fearing a shower. I would think a bath would instill more fear for people that are afraid of the water.

I think it is the shower head that scares him,as even if it is not turned on it really scares him.I have had a shower to show him there is nothing to be scared of and even his brother shows him that there is nothing to be scared of,yet it makes no difference.

I am not so much scared of spiders as allergic to them. If they bite me I get huge bumps that last up to two weeks and drive me up the wall with the itchies.

I don´t know any person who is not afraid of something. Some of them say it, some don´t. My late husband was afraid of frying yet we went by plane to many places. The thing I fear most since my childhood are earthquakes yet I live in the country that has had some of the worst earthquakes in the world. Probably your son will overcome that fear. How old is he? You can have a shower and a tub meanwhile. I have a shower inside my tub. Even though most of the time I take a shower, once in a while I get myself a magazine, fill the tub and add salts and foam and play I´m a princess. Take care!

My son is 7 years old.I can not see why he hates showers or even being near a shower head.I have tried getting him to have a shower at my mums as that is some where different aswell as some where that he feels safe aswell as likes to spend time with my mum.She has a shower in her tub aswell and he hates it.I hope as he gets older he will be ok and learn that the shower head is not going to hurt him.

How old is your son? This is something my son is afraid of as well. I have just been slowly working with him and encouraging him. I am hoping that eventually he will over come this fear, and he has already gotten better.

My son is only 7 and for some reason he hates showers and he has to have a bath, rather than a shower,as he screams and panics when he has the shower head over him,or even any where near him.I could understand his problem if he had had a bad experience with a shower head or even a shower at some point in his life, but he has not had any bad experience todo with a shower.

This is the first time I read about that fear. Shower head? My kid loves to take a bath using a shower. Better change your bathroom but maybe in time, maybe not not but he will over come it.

Our minds control our fears, it is a very curious thing. Someday I am sure mind mapping will be more easily accessible so we will understand the hows and whys of brain functions. We are all so very unique, some of our difference are a little more obvious than others. As my mom reminded me often: "It takes all kinds to make a world." I am personally afraid of snakes (long story) even though I know most of them offer not serious threat towards me, the fear is always with me. I've learned to live with my fear, and no longer beat myself up for being different. As far as fears go, they are a part of who we are.

My child also has the same fears with your child. I do not understand, what caused my child's fear. But the sense of fear has gradually begun to disappear.

Maybe you can find one of those showers that you pull out of the shower head in a wand. If he can hold the sprayer in his hand, it might become more fun than fear. Of course, you will have to be careful or he'll soak you down.

I am also scared of spiders I never did like them because they are creepy and crawly and I wish that I would never have to see them again, but I guess that they will always be around no matter what. They are just so scary, creepy, and crawly the way they walk and just everything about them in general is plain gross and icky. I really don't like bugs and a spider I will always call my dad or my brother so that they could come and get rid of it because some spiders are deadly.

My partner is scared of spiders. Not helped by some loon in her youth chasing her around the playground with one. A lot of young men aren't too happy with a shower. Hopefully he'll grow out of it, as a shower is so much more economic on water. Before I were out of shorts in school my father thought it would be a good means of teaching me to swim by throwing me in. For years after I could never cope with having the shower head spray over my face- fear of drowning. He thought he would cure my boyhood fear of heights by having a play 'push' from the roof of a half constructed hospital; so now I get vertigo- even in the higher seats of somewhere like the Albert Hall. Shame I can't cure him of stupidity by removing his brain: but that had obviously been done some time before.

It is really understanding of you not to be angry or upset at this phobia. He remembers or perceives something from before he was old enough to speak and reason about showers and shower heads. They maybe just look weird to him. Perhaps you could have a shower installed in the tub for you, but put a cover or disguise over it for the times when he has to be in there. He is beginning to be old enough to understand that Mummy needs this. Another thing would be to buy a shower head and encourage him to handle it, and even take it apart, so that he knows he is more powerful than it is. For many years I was terrified when I saw an airplane banking to make an approach to an airport. That was because when I was really little we had one crash in a field behind us. I thought that when they were turning they were crashing. Eventually it got to where I did not notice anymore, but it took a long while.

I am scared of worms and centipedes and people just step on them. i can't do it because i can't even look at it. I do not like snakes while some people are holding it, and even hugging it. Even some of us have a real snake at home. You know when i see a snake dry skin in some areas, i will have a fever the other day because of wondering there is a snake around. Obviously, i do not like Anaconda movies. Some like rollercoaster, while me, you will see me on bump car and ferris wheel than riding rollercoaster that will end my breathing. no way!

I don't have anything I am afraid of. My daughter is deathly afraid of spiders. When she was 4 years old she got locked into a bedroom at a cottage that was full of spiders and she has been afraid of them since. It wasn't done on purpose, her being locked in a bedroom, it was an accident and no one knew that she locked it until a couple hours later when she was checked on. She didn't scream or cry out so no one knew. I wasn't there, she was with her dad and her dad's girlfriend at the time. She is now 28 years old and she still freaks out when she sees a spider. Is your son young? I know my kids wouldn't go into a shower till they were over 10 years old because they were afraid to. But once they did do it they loved it. Now where my daughter and I live we don't have a bathtub, only a shower, but I still wish we had a bathtub too. I miss having a bath and I have one whenever I can, like when we went to Vegas last month, I had a bath every day. Your son will probably grow out of his fright if he is young. Cheers my friend, Chris

There aren't a lot of things that scare me. However, that one thing that I am deathly afraid of is mice. I absolutely hate those things. In fact, there was a mouse in our house last year and I saw it scamper across the floor one evening and I screamed so loud that it woke up everyone in our house. We have two cats now so I'm hoping that they will be able to keep the mice at bay this winter as the weather turns colder.
