How many killdeer chicks did you see grow up this year?

Killdeer are plovers that often live away from the seashore. They mostly live in north and south America with a small population in Great Britain. The chicks are very small and covered with down and can run a few hours after hatching. They're so cute! I saw 5 teeny-tiny chicks and heard 6, but I saw 8 chicks reach flying age. A lot of the U.S. was very hot and dry this year, so I think many killdeer and their chicks died. :(

I remember the first time I saw a plover (don't know what kind it was) I was like... "so, that's the bird my street is named after..."

They're cute! This year, I've mostly seen killdeer plovers, but I saw quite a few sandpipers, though.
