The positive things about my husband being on unemployment. Do you see any?

1.Now: He's walking every day. He can walk at least a mile now. When working: He used to stand in mostly one spot all day on cement floors and come home to put his feet up. If he had to walk, he couldn't walk very far. He had floppy foot and heavy breathing. 2. Now: He's made friends. Every Wednesday, he hangs out with a bunch of retired guys and talks. Before: Since he moved up here, he really didn't have many friends. A few at work, but they kept changing where he worked for location because he has various skills. When they upsized, they had him teach others. When they downsized, they had him teach others. I think a 6 months to a year with the same people at any one time and he's been there over 10 years. 3. Now: We're getting things fixed and sorted through. Before: After fixing and building things all week, unless he went on vacation, he didn't want to do it after work and never had time on the weekends with being the commander of the local VFW. So are you unemployed now or have you ever been unemployed? Did or do you see any positive things to it? If you never have been unemployed, other than look for work, what do you think you would do?

Hi writersedge. I work as a computer trainer and consultant(career) and during my career span of 15 years, there have been many instances when I was unemployed. I have been lucky to have survived those bad patches (if they can be called bad). When unemployed, I really felt happy because I could find time to do so many things that I wanted to do... like reading, self development, hanging out with friends, watching more movies at the theaters, touring to my relatives and friends who stay away at distant locations. I think once we get into the world of careers/jobs, all of us are not that lucky to pursue their other needs. I must admit that because of these patches in my life, I have gained more knowledge and skills that I might not have otherwise got to start my own small business. Regards, Sids.

That's excellent! As long as people can live on half their pay (and in some cases less than half), or put money away for those times, it can be an educational and rewarding experience. Thanks for your input.

You're welcome. I've noticed that people either get better or worse at this. When you compliment them going in the right direction, they usually get better. Take care both of you.

@writersedge: Thanks for appreciating my response. It is what I have learned that Knowledge and some recreation are always beneficial and especially in those times when things get going the other side, it is important to remain calm, have a bit of confidence and faith that things will be better soon and lastly your willingness to grow in that time. Regards, Sids.

Sounds like He has made some positive changes and choices. Unemployment can do a number on people. I was lucky to always be able to find work. I am glad to hear he is doing okay. It can sure be hard sometims. If I were unemployed I would try to get woek but also do some things around the house that needed to be done. Things I hadn't had time for with work.

Yes, those are good ideas. I think now so many people are unemployed in our area that being unemployed is more a norm. We had articles about how to handle it in our newspaper. Take care

It is good that your newspaper is helping people in this situation. Our community is good in this way as well. Take care.

well, I wasn't working for almost a year, and nothing really changed, except that I did a good number more crafts, but other than that...

More crafts is something. I'd love to do more crafts and not have to worry very much about money.
