No water or no electricity-which is more bearable?

Life can sometimes be so difficult. Water and light are our daily basic needs. A few hours ago, we had a power failure. Work was definitely interrupted and not all air conditioning units can function as our generator cannot accommodate the power requirement of the whole building. It was so hot. I remembered the news on TV last night which reported that more than 200,000 households in one of the major cities here will have no water for almost four days. That's even worse. If you were given a situation where you will have no electricity as in total black out or no water at all for a few days, what will you choose? Days without electricity or days without water?

Days without electricity is more bearable for me. There are ways to create light, create something for you to be comfortable. However, water is very hard to replace and find.

I absolutely agree with you. Live without electricity must be very hard and very boring, but without water we will die. As I know, human generally only stands for a week without water. So, what's more important than our life ???

I agree too, that no electricity is more bearable than no water. In most rural area they used to live without the electricity, but water is undeniably one of the real basic need. Actually, even most people could survive with water alone and without food. So it's really the water that is important.

I live in alaska. My mother is from a village where running water/plumbing and electricity if fairly recent and in poor condition. Seeing as I know how to get my own water, I think no electricity is much more inconvenient. I so love the internet television and all the other luxuries that electricity provides. so, I could live in a black out and w/o running water but the black out would be a much bigger bummer.

In south central Texas we consider it a necessity, but it really is not. I grew up on a farm where we didn't have electricity until I was in high school. I'm not saying that it was easy, but we survived. Water. though, is another matter. Without water, both vegetation and humans will die.

i would rather choose days without electricity. if my home has no electricity i still can stop from using my electronic products. if necessary i can still go for other place for example if i want to use my laptop i can go to Starbucks. however, i can't live without water. it is hard if we have no water supply for cooking for food and drinks, we can't even take bath also. i think it is kinda weird for me to take bath in public place.

Days without electricity i guess since there are still generators that we could use. I can't live without water for days... No way... i can easily do something about the electricity but not the water... since it could mean that i cannot take a bath, drink, cook or anything that i could do with water... its more important to me than electricity..

Hi emgee, I would rather have no electricity than water. Even without power, we can still improvise to do things we should do in the absence of electricity.. Like cooking, light, etcetera.. But being without water it's really hard. We can't produce water and during crisis times for water, it is really hard to have even if you are ready to buy it. Here in the Philippines, even if it rains often, the water level in dams is still in critical levels so as an individual, I avoid being excessive in my water usage. It might help and I hope others will do it too. We should realize that we need to conserve water because someday the day may come that we won't be able to use water anymore because it's totally used up already.. And it quite scares me.. days without electricity I can handle and would be able to adapt to, but days without water I don't think so..

If I had to choose it would be days without electricity. I can always use a flashlight or little lantern to have some light but can't keep my hands clean without water. I'd rather have clean hands, be able to brush my teeth and shower. We still have 12 daylight hours this time of the year so it wouldn't be too bad. I could always go to a 24 hour restaurant nearby the house and work on crafts or make calls.

I am from Pakistan and we are already living without electricity because we are facing acute shortage of electricity. So for us we only have water and that one is also getting shorter day by day. Life is difficult without water but as our ancestors have lived their life without electricity we can also do so but without water you cant live more than a week or two.

Well, if there is no water all all, I would die. But I can live without electricity even though it would be darker and night time and colder when the heating didn't come on. I could still put more clothes on to keep warm, and meditate and sleep during the long hours or darkness during the winter time. Howveer, if it was just a short term of no water or electricity, then I would prefer to have the electricity on and if I knew that there was going to be no water, I would store some reserved just in case I needed it. _Derek

Having no electricity is definitely more bearable than not having water. There are ways by which we can have a source of light. There are rechargeable lamps, candles, natural light, kerosene lamps, etc. If you can't sleep because of the heat, you can always use a paper fan, or take a shower before sleeping. I was able to experience not having electricity in our house for a long time because the transformer near our house got damaged when it was struck by lightning so we had no electricity for almost a month. We were already in the city then, and our house was situated in a place where there wasn't even any wind blowing towards our direction because you know how city houses are constructed to maximize the use of space. It was a very difficult experience but we managed because we still had water. The reverse would not have been as comfortable.

Hello emgee595, We all know for fact that our descendants lived thousands of years ago without electricity. And in history, people even had war for water. So I think I can't bear to live without water. Water is one of the basic and most important thing that all of us cannot live without. :-)

Electricity is more bearable. They don't have electricity in the old days, yet they survived. I don't think we can survive without water for more than one week. Our body is 70% water. A human can survive without food for more than a week but not without water, in just 4 days without water, it surely can kill us. Having water can soothe us from a hot day without air conditioner. Just take a bath, then you'll feel fresh again.

I would rather have water more than electricity because with water i can shower and get something to drink and not be dehydrated in all of the heat.

Both are very important i must agree on that but if will be choosing one i would prefer water of course as without water we will die. Its what our body needs in order to survive. Without electricity...well we can survive it surely. Its like living in a non develop area or remote area. So its like getting used to it. Besides people long time ago lives without it. So definitely i will choose water over electricity. Happy mylotting!

The answer is of course water. Water is necessity of the body, whereas electricity is not. Survival without the former is impossible. So for the one who needs to survive water is the answer.

That`s a very difficult decision to make. In my case, I think I would prefer no water than no electricity. Without electricity my refrigerator wouldn`t work, meaning all my food would go to waste. I can buy botteled water and put it in the refrigerator, or use it to wash dishes, so it would be better than not having electricity at all. Also I could go those days to a public bath to keep myself clean too. However, I can`t imagine my life without electricity

No electricity for me. I like reading books and writing ON PAPER and I have an old fashioned type-writer with regular coloured and non-coloured ribbon and normal paper. I don't need electricity. However, I love water and I swear my body gets dehydrated if I don't drink something every three minutes. I'd rather have no TV or increase on the electric bill than be without water. :] Seeing in the dark isn't too hard up in Maine where people have CANDLES in every room and flashlights. Only needed at night because it doesn't get too dark out here at night when the stars and moon are out.

No water is more bearable than no electricity at all. There were lots of complication if there is no electricity, because we're used to it with our daily lives. You can't cook if your using rice cooker, no electric fan then the sun is shining above the sky at the highest degree celsius, oh where on earth would we go, lucky to those who are living in cold places. With no water there we're many things to do to have it, many solutions. We can get water for bathing from the well or go to the sea and river right, and we can buy it from the supermarket for drinking. So for me I can really live with no water than no electricity.

For me, no electricity is bearable than no water. I can live without electricity but not without water. One day without water will make me weak. I can't even start my day without taking a bath or drink water.
