We never know when an accident will occur and we will need to be given blood by a hospital. Giving blood donations can mean the difference between saving a life and letting one slip away. When there are blood drives in your neighborhood, do you donate blood? If not, why?

yep i just did recently... and after 7 days, i got the blood screening result, and my blood was fine...good enough for donation...it felt great. i'm planning to donate again after 3 months. that's what the red cross service rep said, i could do it again after three months...and once my body's gotten used to donating, it could be as often as every 2 months. i met with an accident about 10 years ago, i was about 4 years old... the blood donors (who remain unnamed) saved my life.... but they ran out of blood for type O's so I still had to find a relative / friend who's willing to donate more for me...the challenge was to find a good match. anyway they all did give me life...the donors i mean. and i'll be forever grateful ... so i'm giving something in return.

Thank you for your response. We never know who we will be helping when we donate blood. it can be a good feeling to know we are making a benefit to someone's life.

I donated blood once in my life when I was young and still fairly healthy. Since then I have become diabetic so they won't let me donate anymore. Too bad, too, because I always felt better after having a pint drained from me...lighter, more energy. I understand some folks feel drained physically after donating blood but for me it was the opposite.

Sometimes we are just not able to donate blood when we want to. At least your heart is in the right place.
