I started physical therapy today

I started physical therapy today for my right foot and ankle. It is going to be a long road to recovery for me. They did an evaluation on my foot and ankle flexion and said my foot is only moving 4 degrees. A normal range of motion is 10-20 degrees. My muscles are all bunched together so they put a special sports tape on my leg to try to train the muscles to relax some. I had a twenty minute massage which really hurt because my muscles are extremely tense followed by a series of electrical shock to the foot and ankle. That didn't really hurt. It just felt like my muscles were contracting. I will be going twice a week for at least a month and do some of my therapy in a warm water pool. I also have exercises to do at home for my legs and foot. I have been struggling with this injury since February and all my previous foot doctor did was put me in a walking boot.

man, I know that's a tough one to be going through. But at least someone finally caught it. And at least you're getting the therapy. I have therapy included on my plan for my son...it's paid for. But there's no one in this county who is a provider so he cannot get it at all!

Is there a nearby childrens hospital? Perhaps he could get it there.

Thanks for asking... but he's 26. Home health is supposed to hook us up as we don't have a vehicle. It's also difficult to get him around as he doesn't do much on his own. (he was injured in a car wreck)

Sounds like you finally got the therapy you need, all thanks to this new doctor. Thank God as I am sure this pain was so irritating so now you will get all the therapy treatment and hope that after several sessions you foot and ankle will be on the path to recovery. Nothing worst than our foot and ankle to put us a bit out of commission as you have little one home that more than sure keeps you going. Maybe it will have more range of motion for the upcoming holidays, hooray - so keep up with all the therapeutic recommendations and I wish you well.

I think this will help. It hurts tonight because of all they did today. I am not used to it. It is hard keeping up with my son. When I walk with him up to the school he is way in front of me.

I hope you're finally on the road to recovery. It's a shame when doctors give a misdignois. My mom went to physical therapy. She had a back problem. Just remember, though, if you get better you have to continue to exercise on your own at home. Best of luck.

Thanks. Yes they gave me exercises to do every day. I am going to start on them tomorrow since they did so much today in therapy. I don't want to overdo it.

thats good to hear! eventually your muscles will loosen up and you can move freely with them. i suggest you dont skip any sessions so that recovery will be faster.
