Which one is better, buy a laptop or CPU ?

Dear friends, I've confused lately because the sounds don't come out from my PC. I have a desktop PC in my home. I bought it three years ago as a second user. The CPU is pretty old I guess so I changed all inner part of it like processor, DVR RW, VGA, PCI and RAM. Because I love watching movies, I even changed the monitor to 19" LCD and buy new keyboad and mouse for it. I don't know why the sound won't come out, but after I install motherboard and the Windows, it still couldn't solve the problem so I decided to buy a new one. My first choice is buy a new CPU because I don't want to waste my wide monitor to laptop's 14" monitor. Maybe if I buy a laptop, it will give me more advantages for its portability, but at once will cost me extra expenses than if I buy a CPU. After I search on the web, I've consider to buy HP Compaq CQ42-258 Biscotti for its core i5 processor and low price in its class. How do you think about it, should I buy that laptop or just buy a CPU ? Or if you have any suggestion about better laptop for me, please let me now for my consideration. Thank you.

If the sound doesn't come out from your PC it is usually because the sound driver has not been installed on your PC. You must install your sound driver even if your PC has an integrated sound card. When you bought your second-hand PC did it come with the driver CD for the motherboard? If it did you might find the driver for the sound there. If it didn't then you can try to search the sound driver for your particular motherboard on the Internet. Look for the make and model number of your motherboard search it online. If you can't find the sound driver online, there is still a cheaper way of making your PC sound come out than buying a new computer which is to buy a separate sound card that you can install in your motherboard. Look inside your PC, if it still has an empty PCI slot then you can do this.

If you have a sound card on your motherboard and you installed a sound card, then you need to disable the sound card on your motherboard and enable the new sound card that you installed. If you have both, that maybe your problem. It is probably just a setting that you need to find, I wouldn't give up on it yet.

if i were u, i just upgrade it... buy new sound card for resolving your sounds problem. u can buy new VGA for watching full HD movie, but before u buy the new 1, check your socket or requirement compatibility hardware support from your mainboard, since your PC already 3 years old, lol. but i think u still can find the best hardware upgrade easily for your CPU. dot forget to upgrade your memory, try to buy 4GB memory nad once again check your compatibility support memory for your mainboard. thats more cheaper than bought the new macine.... lol. old machine can run well in linux systems, more powerfull than windows, but u need to compile more packets manually to complete multimedia activity, or u can easily by download it. try ubuntu, its more friendly, lol Have a nice day ^^

I already put a new sound card and new VGA for my PC, but the problem still persist, thats why I got frustated and decided maybe I should buy a new laptop than new CPU :p I only used to use Windows, I never use Linux or Ubuntu so I think it would cost me extra time to learn from zero. Beside that, all of my software based on Windows so I think I'll use another machine with Windows OS. Thank you for all of you for the repply and suggestion.

What is your sound card? Do you have the CD driver? If so, try reinstalling the driver and the software that comes with it. Also, make sure you examine the cable and speaker as well.

I think its better to have laptop nowadays. For the reason that it was really convenient to use. And you can use it anytime and anywhere in your home or even outside. And the good thing is that we have wifi already which we are free to connect internet wherever we are. But in your case it was older already and i guess your really love that gadget so i guess you should just upgrade it anyway you like to watch movies so its better and enjoyable if your monitor is wide enough, goodluck hope you get the best decision.

It'e best to upgrade the entire system rather than go through all these unnecessary trouble. Buying a new one includes better technologies and better sound and picture quality. For a laptop, my best suggestion would be the Hp Pavilion dv6, which offers a better performance.

In depends on how you will you it and what is your purpose. If you work at home the CPU is better and cheap. But if you need to bring one to work, you should buy a laptop. You can still use your existing monitor even you buy laptop. Both of them has their own advatage.

As you say that you have already desktop computer but now it is old. So now you want to purchase another one. I think if you are want to buy computer for your home then desktop will be good for you. Because laptop is a very sensitive things and if it going in many hand then it becomes creates problem. So I suggest you to buy a latest CPU and now in these days Intel i7 processors are available in market.

i think that u should probably buy a lap top.. one of the best is notebook the reason y u should get a notebook laptop is because they last the longest and they r alot more affordable than other kinds of computers. they last up to atleast 3 years and u can take them just about anywhere. but another thing u could do instaed of buying a computer is u could get a cell phone with internet and then u wouldnt have to get a computer cuz u would have internet on ur cell phone

Did you check the sound card. Both desktops and laptops have advantages and disadvantages. It would depend on what you are usng it for. If you just want to watch movies at home, I would stick with a desktopm myself.

Maybe you should have ckecked the sound card. Both a desktop and laptop have advantages and disadvantages, but it would probably depend on what you want to use it for. If you just want to watch movies at I home, then go for a desktop.

It depends upon your work. If you moves from one place to another place then laptop is the better choice for you. If you wants to work all time then go for cpu.

OMG I think you wasted a fortune already to get your old pc repaired :D. Your problem in the PC was the sound card and sound driver. neways gone is gone. Now consider your options carefully. A desktop Pc and a laptop both have their advantages. So weigh the pros and cons before jumping in to buy whatever you want. A laptop would help you if you constantly away from your home and need a computer with you. The only great feature of laptop over Desktop is mobility and small size. If you like to play games or use heavy softwares and like a big screen probably go for the Desktop pc, You already have the monitor so you only need to buy the CPU, Check out the best configuration that would suit your needs.
