Do female dogs also have menstruation? Also cats and animals too?

Female dogs do have a "heat cycle", usually once every 6 months but it varies among the females. In that cycle (which lasts about 3 weeks), they do shed some blood. Some animals do not have this kind of cycle. For instance, rabbits are "induced" ovulators. They only release eggs when they are mated so they do not have a cycle and do not shed any blood or lining. :)

Ah. He he he.. now, I know. We have our dog name 'Kiss' and my sister told us that our dog shed some bleed in her room. I don't understand why a dog bleeds. The first thing that come into my mind is menstruation, ha ha (^_^) but I am not sure If I am correct.

Yes, they are having menstruation too, in fact when female dog has menstruation, that is the time that they are in for mating. That's the time for the puppy to exist once female dogs mate with male dogs.

Based on my pet dogs, I believe they do have because sometimes I can see some traces of blood on my female dog which I don't really find from my male dog. I really don't know if my judgment is correct but that is what I have been observing.

i think so... We have a female dog, and she somehow got sick... not knowing what happened to her, she was weak, and wasn't too jolly. then after some time, we noticed that there were spots of blood on the floor, apparently coming from her...

I have seen female cats and dogs bleed from their behind. Just not sure then if it was menstruation because it didn't happen on a regular basis. But it sure came from their private part. My theory is that for cats, they have it on a regular basis but they always lick themselves so we don't see the actual bleeding.

I don't have pet dog, but i have seen blood on private part of female dogs, not the male ones, that might be mensturation in some way, but it is certainly NOT every month, as we have.. thanks for this discussion. cheers, happy posting, kalyani

I haven't made a search if animals, female animals for that matter, are having menstruation just like humans. However, in my personal opinion, I think that animals doesn't have such experience. Animals are created differently from man and vice versa. If animals have menstruation, it is the first time that I heard such a news. It's good to have a knowledge about it. Have a wonderful day and happy menstruation if you are in this situation.
