Do you give alms to the needy?

Not necessarily money but anything that you can give to the poor, do you give to them? Every time I go home, I cannot ignore the beggars I usually pass by along the road. Some stay near garbage cans so they can check garbages thrown if there is anything they can eat from it. Some stay along the roads when many people pass-by. Before, I thought that since there are so many people passing by, maybe some of them give their help already so I do not feel not obliged to give. Then I realized that they may be thinking the same. At the end of the day nobody really helped the beggars since everyone think that somebody may have helped them already. Do you give to the needy near you?

I am a part of the women's group in my community and we visit the poor and needy bring them food items, clothing etc. We do this once per week and there are other groups from the various churches who also provide assistance to them.

That's good. We are never sure that other people near them are helping.

Yes, I give alms to the needy. Some times I see some people, old and so weak, sitting at the road corner in the freezing temperature, begging with a small plate in the hand. I cannot just passby without giving him/her some money. Whatever amount is helpful to the person I know.

That's good. This world does not run out yet of good people. :) No other people will help them but us that are near them.

Sometimes, I do and sometimes, I don't. Depends on how charitable or how good I feel. Enough to help those who are in need? Most of the ones who are asking for help that I get to encounter are usually those that still look like that they can actually do something to change their current situation, like really work on something. Yeah, I know, its not easy to find a job for people like them but, even new graduates are having a hard time looking for a job these days. Then, there are those that take advantage of their deformities to solicit charity from people. I don't know, seems like they do it on purpose most of the time. Still, I get to help them every now and then but, these days, not so much.

Yep, it's better to give when you feel like it. It's not good to force yourself to give when you don't like to.

Sometimes, I do. Sometimes, I don't. One thing I never give them is money. I saw some street children using the money to highlight their hair etc. That is why I just give them food most times. I usually give them biscuits and candies.

Yep it's better to give them what they really need. Giving them money will make them buy some other things.

Sometimes I do. It's just hard to give alms every time. A lot of the time I have to say no, and I feel bad, but It try to give for the most part. I actually took a homeless guy out to breakfast with. That was fun! Have a good day wrangel.

Yes, giving alms every time will make other people dependent on you. That's good. I also have experienced giving the half of my breakfast to a girl when she approached me in a fastfood.

I only give alms to the needy when I have coins. but nowadays, the needy just disguise themselves because they just don't want to work but it is really hard to find a job right now.

Yup, some just disguise themselves. But given that I pass-by those beggars always I am sure that they are really in need. They already stay outside the building every sleeping time near the garbage area. Sometimes I leave them the food not eaten from my office.

We do not normally heve beggars along the road as you describe. Sometimes in large cities they wait on the sidewalk for people to come out of businesses. I give to charities that care for homeless and hungry people both in the United States and in other countries. If I have extra food I would give it to someone begging, but we just do not see it around my town.

Sometimes I will. More often than not it's not money that I give, but extra food from a restaurant trip. I am reluctant to give money, because I don't know how it will be spent, but if I give food, I know it is going to be used properly. That's my opinion.

The Needy - Help all in need
Beggars and pan-handlers is a major problem in our city. There are many places where you cannot walk two blocks without seeing so many on each corner. I have offered to buy someone a sandwich and they refused as they wanted money. I am truly sorry for their mis-fortunes as I too am not well off. However if I was begging I would take anyone's offer for a meal. I tend to give a lot, especially since I am not a waster in life. So when I have an over-abundance I like to share.

You have a good heart. I think people like you are the ones whom God uses to help the poor and help then move them out from their current situation. It's just really disappointing that some will ask for other things when you're already giving to them.

no. I do not. A lot of the beggars have complete body parts and have big body built. Why are they not making good use of it? Some are blind but can massage, some have disability, but they sell stuffs. Then they have complete body parts, without any disability at all and just beg? Sorry. I do not not help those who do not help themselves.

I guess we can just have to make a way to show them how to work their body out.

I sometimes give to the beggars I pass by on the street, but as much as possible I will give food instead of money. It's because here in our country there are syndicates that uses beggars for money. Instead of giving money to the beggar, you are actually giving money to those syndicates and I don't want that. I think food is much more important and besides some beggars only use money for gambling or for their vices instead of buying more important things.

no. mainly becaue i cant afford to loose anything that i have to my name. If i was wealthy, yes i would. but with times being as hard as they are, i dont. i have to think about my family and mainly my kids before i think about someone else. i know that might sound bad, im just being honest.

I pretty much have never given anything to the poor or to beggers. I have thought many times about taking them to lunch or something but have yet to do it. I will say however when I'm in a larger city and there are many unauthorized street vendors I will buy stuff I like. Also I will donate to people putting on a show of some kind. I think it's a little extra lazy for some beggers to just sit there with a jar, you want my money do something for it. I give a lot in taxes to those lazy people so again if you beg on the streets do something to earn it!

I live in a small town, and there is not a noticeable beggar population. I do know that the churches in the area are very active. I donate to the programs run by the churches I trust in town. I know our methodist church has a program that puts a bag of food into the lockers of students known to be very poor, where families have to choose between food and paying bills, to keep them fed over the weekend. They put together large care packages for the parents at holiday time, so the family will stay fed for the extended time away from school. My sitter is the person I donate to the most. Her only steady income is what I pay for her to watch my daughter. Her ex husband, and the father of her other child are not consistent with child support, so I always buy extra food, more than I know my child will eat in the week.
