My son is 16, has CP and is confined to a wheelchair. We had not planned on stopping at their house, so he was in a portable manual chair. They offered to let us take him to see the animals in the barn. I did not think he would want to, as he is not crazy about animals. He said yes, so in the barn we went. They have a baby calf, they are bottle feeding because it has a hurt leg. They offered to let my son do it. He said yes, but you could tell that he was really nervous. They let the calf out and gave my son the bottle. He was ready to get out of there. The calf came right up to him, and he did not know whether to throw the bottle and get the heck out, or hold the bottle and feed the calf. He did well. He loved it once the calf started eating, and was so proud of himself. Have you ever been terrified of something, only to find out it was really fun?

That is so cool! And bravo to your son for trying something new. I am trying to think of something I've been terrified of doing, but later found out it wasn't so scary. I guess it is probably something simple, like going up to people I don't know and trying to make friends. I was a terribly shy child, and when I started a new school when I was a kid, I was even more terrified. I eventually worked up the nerve to approach a group of girls, and thankfully they were receptive to me. Later, I wondered why I was so scared.

Usually he sees an animal and goes the other way. He loves them from far away. I was so surprised he did it.

I was thrilled to read this Thoroughrob and I knew your son would have been tickled by the experience even before I saw the photograph. Animals can be wonderful therapy for disabled or elderly people. It must have been marvellous to have a connection with a living breathing creature who is depending on him.

Usually he freaks out when animals come close to him. He loves to see them but from far away. He surprised me! (and himself)

U are such a good mom. I'm glad your son enjoyed himself. I think everyone has fear of the unknown.

I am sure many can relate with this one, and have done things we might have been a little scared about and not sure what the outcome would be from it. I know that when dealing with things unknown that when unsure you are afraid of screwing up for sure. But Glad to hear that things went OK and I am sure this was a Good moment for your son and maybe something he now would not be scared to do again.

I think I am afraid of almost anything, but quite an actress, I act as if it is easy. I was even afraid when I first came on MyLot. Your son sounds like he is growing up, and learning to try new things.Every new thing that they can feel proud of is terrific.

I don't like to do different things. I am so afraid of making a fool of myself or getting hurt. I know if I get hurt, my son will be the one that suffers. I have always been a bit backwards anyway.

Since he's so fearful of animals, maybe this incident will help him not to be so afraid. He looks like he's have a good ole time feeding the calf! I'm sure that was his highlight of the day or even week! That's really cool!

He is still showing everyone that come in the house, the picture. I don't know that we would get him to do it again.

How nice that your son actually enjoyed himself, it is lovely to know that…The last time I was really afraid of something but ended up enjoying it instead was around ten years ago when a friend of mine who was training to be a pilot offered to take me up in a two seater plane the next time he had to fly to make up his hours. I am afraid of heights so as you can imagine I was not keen on the idea of flying in a small plane with someone who was not yet a qualified pilot but there was a huge part of me who really wanted to try it so I eventually bit the bullet and went up with him and yes, I had a ball! Not only did I not have any fear but loved every minute of it! So glad I did it…

I don't know why, but I always imagined that your son was younger than he is. For me, there have been things that I have been terrified in during my life, the biggest one being childbirth. However, when I got to the point that I was in labor with my daughter, it really wasn't nearly as painful or scary as I thought it would be. In fact, the moment that they put Kathryn into my arms, I was so enamored with her that I forgot about all of the pain that I'd experienced.
