Do we really see the real face of things and people?

Mr. Angry man and Mrs. Calm lady - If you take a look at the two faces from you chair in front of your computer, you'll see an angry man on your left and a nice, calm lady on your right.
But if you stand up and move away from your computer, when you look at the pictures from at least 3 meters away (8 feet), you will see how they switched places! The angry man is now on your right and the nice lady on your left!
It seems these photos were created by Phillipe G. Schyns and Aude Olivia from the University of Glasgow, by using some sort of low frequency filters.

Sometimes we see something and we think we know everything about it. The same with the people we meet. How many times did it happen to you to see a person, make an oppinion on who that person is, and then find out the first oppinion was wrong? Because, we all know, looks may be deceiving sometimes. I've received an e-mail today, and it containes a proof to how we can make a wrong oppinion on the first sight. I think it would be nice to share this proof. Look at the picture below. If you take a look at the two faces from you chair in front of your computer, you'll see an angry man on your left and a nice, calm lady on your right. But if you stand up and move away from your computer, when you look at the pictures from at least 3 meters away (8 feet), you will see how they switched places! The angry man is now on your right and the nice lady on your left! I think the same could happen in the real life. We can never say we know the truth. We only know the part of the truth, the one that it is accesible to our knowledge, from our point of view. No wonder why other people see things in such different ways. So, how do this things look from your point of view?

"Love at first sight " is a saying but how many get duped by love at first sight. May be few are right and happy subsequently. The impression first sight on the basis of physical appearance only and not on full personality.Out word appearance is different from inner qualities. That is why we some times that "His appearance is deceptive" I have met many such incidents.I was also duped by sweet talk at first meeting. Therefore we should be cautious in our dealings. We should not disclose fully all our cards. My friends used to say that but I was not believing. Now that I have learnt bitter lessons I am rather cautious. Even now I fail some times{Complaint from my wife}...

It's curious how, even if we all know that appearance may be deceptive, we still have such bitter experiences. You're right, we should be cautious in our dealings, but how to remember this, when we left ourselves carried away by the phisical appearance?

Yes We are all carried away by outward appearance. It is very difficult to know the inner qualities unless we move with them for some time.by that time damage is done.It is easy to say 'be cautious' but how? is the question?I think every one of us have bitter experience in this regard.Shall we leave everything to God...?.

We shall KIND OF leave everything to God ... more like 'take our perceptions of people and discuss them WITH God, arriving at the right perception there'

Yes, sometimes the physical form is not always describe the content of something. When we see the durian, the exterior is so thorny, but the inside contains the fruit flesh is so soft and fragrant. So, in essence, do not let us see the contents of something only seen from the outside only.

You're so right! I can say that from my experience only. But there is also the opposite point of view, when the exterior is nice and pleasant and behind the beautiful look there is nothing but malice and selfishness. As one user said above, we should be cautious in our dealings.

Yeah, weird is the word. Isn't it strange how our mind can be tricked by a picture? I mean, we can be tricked by a real person's face, because it can be influenced by that person's mood or health, but... tricked by a picture? I liked it a lot. I think it's also a good lesson for your son, that looks can be deceiving.

wow! this is quite true. I have taken a look at the picture and it really look differently when you look it at different point. Its just goes to show that we should never judge a person basing on the first look that we got from them. We have to know the person deep down to decide whether one person is good or not. I hope all people would realize this, that we don't have to be deceive by the looks of a person.

It happens to me always. Others think differently about me but once they get to know me they would always say, "you know you are like this, but I was wrong"

It happened to me a few times, too. But... always? Why do you think this happens to you?

Isn't it amazing how they managed to make this picture? It's exactly like in real life. Not once we felt good about a person but, as soon as we got to know them better, we realized we were wrong. Did this happen to you, too?

that was cool!!!! haha. i agree that we can truly be wrong when judging a person based on appearance. i, for one, look angry even when i'm not. so a lot of people think that i'm stern pr something. but i'm not...(T_T) haha. the problem is, at first meeting, people really have nothing else to base their judgments on other than appearance. that's the sad fact.

This happened to me too. I have a colleague that revealed this to me. He said that when he first saw me, he thought I may be the most grouchy person he ever had met. But then, when he got to know the real me, he changed his oppinion to the opposite pole.

Wow, that's a really interesting illusion. Where did you find it? I haven't seen it before. It's true, we've all been lied to. It takes time to get to know people. I feel that's the answer- the more time you spend with someone, the more they reveal their true nature. Also being in different situtations helps you get to know someone, seeing how they react to different people etc.

Isn't it interesting? As I said, I received it in my mail. A friend send it to me, she was also amaized by the fantastic change of places. I noticed how we can mistake when we judge people on the first sight. Since then I try to treat all people as they were my friends, and I'm sure time will show their real nature. I just have to wait and see.

hi inu I tried to view as you have said, but sorry it looked same, i could not make any difference, but i agree that what we see is the exterior, never the inner thing, they might be quite opposite and deceiving,i call it illusion rather.. Thanks for this nice discussion Happy posting, cheers. Namastey. Kalyani
