Some of you may remember a few weeks ago a photograph I put on of my son in law practising putting a nappy (diaper) on his pet guineas pig when he and my daughter were awaiting the birth of their baby! Well Olivia is 2 weeks old now and Daddy is doing well putting the nappies on the ral thing! My daughter just sent me this picture of Olivia being introduced to the said guinea pig - Smash - so I thought that I'd share it with you! It seems that this guinea pig is fascinated with the baby and every time she cries so does he! He certainly looks very interested in her. What sorts of reactions have your pets shown to new arrivals in the house?

I don't have any pets as of right now.. but Lord knows I have had plenty from cats to dogs to goldfish and a few guinea pigs!! I have had 3 guinea pigs... 2 adults (female named Sprinkle and male named Rusty).. and their daughter whom I named "Brick City" lol They became too much to take care of as they got bigger.. so I ended up giving them away to a local school so that children could occupy them and keep them happy!!

Olivia's dad is an animal nut! They have 4 guinea pigs, 2 bald rats, 3 fancy mice and 6 gerbils!!

I'm glad they get along. I have no experience of the interaction between animals and young ones, but yours certainly seems encouraging.

I have not had any new babies since I have had these pets. My cat I had when my kids were born thought that she owned his possessions.

We had to give our border collie away when our daughter (Olivia's mum actually) started walking as she kept knocking her over!!

Since hubby and I don't and can't have any kids, we have our fur kids so when another arrives at our home, they all have a fit for the first few days and some even weeks but they eventually get over it. LOL

Ahhhh! That is too cute!! When my daughter was about 6 months old, we got a new puppy named Storm. He was half lab and half unknown. He was about 6 weeks old when we got him. Storm was a great dog and loved Meghan so much. Well when Meghan was just starting to walk, Storm of course was still a puppy and very playful. He would wag is tail at Meghan and she would get knocked over. She would laugh and laugh and laugh. That dog was so protective over Meghan over the years when her brothers would chase her around the house or harass her as brothers do, Storm would stand right in front of her to protect her. They had a very strong bond the two of them. He would walk her to the bus stop when she first started school and sit and cry when she was gone during the day. Sadly Storm was stolen from our backyard one day and we never could find him. That was about 4 years ago. I thought Meghan would never get over him. She never wanted another dog for the longest time. Now Meghan is 12 and she tells me often that she could have gotten over the fact if Storm passed away, but because he was stolen and she obviously had no closure. We have since gotten another dog (and a cat) and they are great pets, however, we will never forget our great protector of our daughter...Storm.

I didn't say they shouldn't. I asked if anyone's pets had any reaction to new babies!

I don't have any cute stories like this but definitely had to comment about the baby and the guinea pig. I think it's absolutely ADORABLE that the guinea pig seems so fascinated by the baby and even moreso because the guinea pig cries when he hears Olivia crying. That is just too precious! I hope Olivia and the guinea pig become great friends once Olivia is old enough to understand enough about the guinea pig and, hopefully, won't try to put it in her mouth, like they all do most things. Too precious!!!

Lol Knowing Smash ( who could eat for England) Olivia is more likely to go in HIS mouth!!!!
