I am 51 years old and I am thinking about going back to school I am not sure for what yet but I think maybe writing! Would you go back to school? If so what course would you take or what career would you go back for?

Totally, absolutely I would. I'm fifty one also and I would go back to school to get a business degree or take classes in marketing. I already did the writing classes and still attend workshops throughout the year at conferences. Lots of luck to you. You'll have a blast.

Yes, I did. I actually signed up for Jerry B. Jenkins' school. A little pricy but really worth it. Lots of free conferences too.

Did you take your writing courses on line?

I am not quite 50, but will be by the time I am done, so yes. Though I am taking all I can online, there are some classes they don't offer online, so I will have to go to class with the younger generation, but it's worth it. In fact if you qualify, you might be able to get a pell grant and go without any out of pocket expenses..That is what I am doing and loving it..

What are you taking in school? Can you share some info on how to go about the grants.

I wanted to just take a couple English classes to improve my writing, but when one gets a pell grant, you have to pick a degree to earn. My advisor suggested a literary arts and science degree which I find is the best for me. Right now I am just taking part time classes, which I suggest for you as well, because trust me, it is a lot of work, especially if you had not been in school for a while. Here is the gov. site for the grant application: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ You do need a code from the college you are considering, you can always call them up for it. It's a process, but if you start now, you should be set up for winter courses.

I would consider going back to school if there was something I was interested in learning about.

For years I have thought I am not interested in anything either. I realize though I am very interested in writing. I have some ideas of things I would like to do it is just getting the courage up to do it.

I don't think anyone is ever too old to learn. I did go to college after our kids were older and in college themselves. Was in my middle to late 40's. I was one of the oldest in the class but didn't let that bother me. The classes were at night so I could work during the day at my no brainer, part time job. I would return again and continue on with psychology. Psychology is a useful career and I find it to be rewarding. Good luck if you decide to go back to school.

Psychology was always something I was interested in when I was younger. I just didn't have the confidence to know I could actually go to school and make something of it. Teaching was also another desire but once again I just didn't know I could. One thing that as always been in the for front of my mind was to be a writer and it is one thing I wish to fullfill before it is too late.

If I knew what I wanted to study I would be there now, and I am 57. My mom audited a lot of classes over fifty and really enjoyed herself.

you are never too old to learn something new. I am in the process of starting my own business so i would go back and take some business classes. I would love to do that for myself. and i just might do it in the very near future!

I know I would! But it wouldn't be any technical stuff that I have been taking all my life. It would something about art that I would enjoy. Something that I could do when I do retire. Maybe learning to play an instrument, or like you writing. Music writing or maybe screenplay writing. I think it would be fun.

Actually screenplay writing is the main reason I have been thinking about going to school. I have had a book in my brain for a long time and I often think I should make it a screen play. I just don't seem to do it but lately feel like it is now or never.

Hi, going back to school in my opinion is not a bad idea at all. I went back to school at the age of 43 not so much to start a new career but to earn the degrees i believe i should have earned when i was younger. It was really the only thing i felt was left for me to do. I have had a wonderful ten years since going back. Earned two degrees and am helping others earn theirs. I chose social work and winded up learning computers. Who can figure? I wish you luck if you decide to go back.

I finished high school in a second chance evening school. I had classmates that were around 60, so I guess it's never too late. My mother went to university in order to get a second degree when she was 40 and I think that I might one day go back to school when my children are old enough and I won't have something to keep me occupied. I don't know what subject I'd pick though or if I'd try to make a career out of my degree.

Nice to know there are so many older people going to school. That is really encouraging.
