Why cant I grow about 3 inches?

I am 5'3" and usually very happy with my height. (Dynamite comes in small packages) Here lately, however, I have been wishing that I could magically grow about 3 inches. My husband has a motorcycle and we enjoy riding but it would be nice if I could learn to operate a bike myself. He wants to teach me! I tried getting on his bike but the seat is way to high. After straddling the bike my feel barely touch the ground. We dont have alot of money so buying another bike isnt really an option. Even if we had the money we would have to buy one and then pay extra to have it modified to fit me. And then what? What if we spend all that money only to find out that I lack the coordination to operate it? We cant modify his because then he couldnt ride it and again what if we discover that I cant handle it? GRRRRRR So does anyone have a magic growing potion that will help me out? (any other helpful suggestions will be appreciated too)

Hi wonttakelong, I so wish I could magically give you some of my height. I am 5'7 1/2" and always wanted to be shorter. I know it's not THAT tall but all my friends are very petite like you. I have four daughters and they too are all petite. I feel like a human tree. Ok now for some possibly actual helpful advice... LL Bean sells a shoe that is actually made for comfort for people that work on their feet all day. I will try to find you the name of this shoe but they are really popular with nurses and such. They come in both white and black. My daughter got me a pair because I am on my feet a lot. They are very very comfortable and look great with jeans or dress pants. I swear though that they make me several inches taller. When I wear them, others will accuse me of wearing heels but I'm not at all. After I fix dinner, I'll go down to my closet and pull these shoes out and see if the name of them is on the inside and get back to you. They are a bit pricey but not nearly as expensive as a new bike or even modifying one. I doubt very much your feet are the same size as me because I'd gladly mail them to you as I've only worn them once or twice briefly (and with sox). The only resson I don't wear them all the time is because I really don't care for the added height. I'm a size 8 1/2.

how heat resistant are the shoes? they have to be able to withstand the heat from the engine and the pipes 8 1/2 is too big for me but if you tell me whazt they are called maybe I can do some research HUGS

Hi wonttakelong, I pulled out my shoes and all they say on them on the inside is "LL BEAN. I did go on the LL bean site to see if I could find them. All I could find that somewhat looked like them was the comfort clogs. I'm not real sure that those are the same. I have sent my daughter an e-mail to see if she remembers what exactly they were called.

I answered this from my email, and didn't realize my suggestion had already been given. Guess it just seems like the obvious choice to those of us who are vertically challenged! LOL

Hey wtl!I'm the same height, and actually I've already shrank a 1/2 inch, although I am still questioning the nurse who measured me! I used to love to ride bikes when I was younger so I feel your pain! What I don't understand is why can't they fix it so the seat could be adjusted? WTF? Why would that be so difficult? And if they can put pedal extenders on a car for a "height challenged" person why can't they make a bike that "one size fits all"? I would still jump on the back of a Harley in a NY minute if I had the chance!

Sorry WTL, my apologies about where you live! It was a "mutual" friend of ours that is the NYer! But, I am still willing to start a petition online! Awaiting your answer! Love & Hugs, Opal (a diehard closet biker wannabe)

It would be nice if bikes had adjustable seats but sadly Harley hasnt figured that one out yet (must be run by men LOL) I love riding on the back of his but sometimes I want to go for a ride and he isnt around I hate waiting on him to be available, ya know?

You know, 5'3 really isn't all that short (OK - this is coming from a chick who is 5'9 but you know.. lol.) I love your saying, though, that's hilarious: "Dynamite comes in small packages"). LMAO good one! So, this is probably totally unhelpful but I thought I'd throw it out there.. Is there any way you could make it work? I used to bike with one of my friends on a regular basis, and she was between 5 feet and 5'1. (She's grown now, but she was that tall then), and somehow she made it work and I never heard a complaint. Of course, maybe she bought a smaller bike or something like that. Maybe if it's a new (different, that is) bike you need - you could borrow one from a friend? Or sell your current one on Craigslist and buy a new/used one that will be easier for you to ride?

I dont know any women riders around here all of our biker friends are men and they have the same size (or bigger) bike Selling his bike is not an option its brand new! still making payments on it! That is his baby! I couldnt even fathom the reaction I would get from him if I even thought about suggesting we sell it. besides we wouldnt get what we have put into it back we have over $30,ooo invested in the bike, upgrades and customizations

I'm a short person too, and I use platform shoes and boots Unfortunately at my age it's impossible to grow, so that's the only way. I don't know your age though Maybe you can try with some heeled biker shoes. There are insoles that are a few cm tall to make short people look taller, and you can put them inside your normal shoes too to be taller. It's not magic but it's a method

Then tall insoles are a good option for you as you can't naturally grow :)

My first thought is I sincerely hope you get some answers (which translates to "I don't know ) I can think of nothing worse or more frustrating to have the opportunity to experience something but not be able to due to my lack of height. My fingers and toes are crossed fore you mate.

I always wish that I have the height of the westerners but it is not meant to be. I think your height is above average. Wait til you see the lilliputs of Asia, you'll be shocked that you are towering over them when you walk down their streets. I wish I know the magic portion to increase height. I am just above 5 ft. But surprisingly my sons are 6 footers.

I'm 5'4". I feel I am to much of an in between size. I either wish I was taller or shorter. I wonder if anyone is ever happy with themselves or if I am just way to self-concious. That sucks you cannot learn to ride your husbands motorcyle. I have no interest to learn to drive one. I actually would be scared to. I have riden on them but never actally drove one.
