Need your help please... Is this a faked verse?

John 4:42 (Contemporary English Version) 42They told the woman, "We no longer have faith in Jesus just because of what you told us. We have heard him ourselves, and we are certain that he is the Savior of the world!"

It makes it sound as though they no longer have faith in Jesus. It also sounds like a contradiction. It is a bad translation. The Samaritans are no longer believing just because of what the woman told them but because they have heard Jesus for themselves and know (from hearing him) that he is the Christ. Many people still swear by the King James Bible as a reliable translation of the Bible. Personally, I like the English Standard Version. I don't have a clue about corrupt translations. Who is credited for giving this translation you posted?

the phrase does not indicate that the people no longer had fatih in Jesus, rather the idea is that their faith is no longer based on her testimony, but upon their having heard Jesus for themselves. My preference for a modern translation is English Standard Version.

That is why we needed to read the whole chapter and not just pick out two verses to rule what the content means. Any version has no problem but for me, i still like the KJV, NKJV and NIV. John chapter 4 as we know that Jesus talks with a Samaritan woman in the first part of the chapter. So in that verse you are referring, it means only that the Samaritans believe Jesus Christ even if the woman need not to say so. The Samaritans believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World. We read the scriptures because it is our duty to be equip and grow spiritually. The Holy Spirit helps us understand what is in the Word of God. I do believe that when you read God's word, you don't read it as a newspaper. You meditate on the Word of God and pray. Don't worry, if there is anything you don't clearly understand, God will help you as what James 1:5 says "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

Here is the king james version. "And said unto the woman, now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world." New International Version, They said to the woman,"We no longer believe just because of what you said; but now we have heardfor ourselves, and we know this man really is the Savior of the world." So you just get what the verse mean there. It is how they translate it that make you confuse. But the meaning is the same. Try to read it carefully. That is why sometimes we need a lot of version of bible because of this confusion in translation.

Another way of saying that would be "we believe in Jesus now not only because of what you said, but because we have heard him for ourselves.." Most Bible versions try to base their version on the original Greek it was written in (the New Testament) and with the Hebrew the Old Testament was written in.. Though some do revisions from their own previous versions.. or some have done versions from the King James.. but Jesus did not speak in the King's English..
