negative stereotyping of different races

Stereotyping is everywhere and i am personally sick of it. Every race is associated with one or more stereotypes that can apply to anyone White-fortunate, middle class, intelligent Black-projects, guns, violence, imprisonment, gangs, death Hispanic-mediocre jobs, illegal immigrant, gangs, imprisonment Asian-math, technology, cooking animals, hair or food store Indian-terrorists, muslim, arranged marraiges These stereotypes are ridiculous! but no matter how ridiculous they may be, we subconsiciously judge people by them. For instance, we might not feel safer in a blck or hispanic community. We might question if the chicken we ordered is really chicken when we go to a chinese restaurant. We might think we can't succeed if we're not white. We might fear for our safety if we get travel via airplane, bus, or subway, and there is an Middle eastern is somewhere in the midst. Should people really be judged by these? Of course not. Give me your opinion mylot, on why these negative stereotypes even exist

Some stereo types are just the truth or oftentimes true. Muslim youth in Holland: - Low education - Low determination - Receive a boatload of financial aid to keep them quit. - Commit fraud. Even small like checking out immediately after checking in on public transport. I take the bus every single day and never have I seen a native Dutchie do this... NEVER! - Commit crime. 50%, if not more has had to deal with police. - Try to follow Islam but actually don't follow it. - Put themselves in the victim role when they're doing things wrong. - They say you're discriminating them when you're critiquing them. ( Being Moroccan, Turkish, Somalian is no race, remember? xD) Dutchies: - Greedy - Yep, we only give one cookie during tea because you're not supposed to eat yourself fat on cookies. - Arrogant - Yep, blame the government, left-wingers make you arrogant. - Cheese munchers - We love cheese yep - Like having vacation in caravans and motor homes on campings - yeap. - Youth likes going to Spain or Greece to get drunk and do the do. - Sadly... yes... Is it bad to stereotype? Not... If it's really true...

i respect your opinion, but i must disagree on this. stereotyping is never good because it doesn't apply to everyone. if i said all dutch people are child molesters, you're dutch, but you've never molested a child than i have negatively stereotyped you and judged you for something you have no control over. the only truth to any of this is that some people adhere to the stereotype. that doesn't necessarily make it true. it just means some people make bad decisions

yeah, i am also against this.. but i think what, if we should also behave as well properly when we are in a place, other than our comfort, so that we will not be stereotyped. example, if i am a chinese, i try not to be noisy or very talkative in the pantry or canteen since there are other races around that might get irritated. or my food is not normal to the place I stay, and its a little bit smelly, i will try to ask permission or just say simple is it ok? or i am sorry if i get anybody feels unpleasant about it. what do you think?

I think these stereotypes existed because there were more than a minority of people in that particular ethnic group with that negative trait. I do not know what the circumstances would be, ten percent or twenty percent? But enough so someone has to make the statement "Not every Asian is good at science," etc. although I never heard anyone say "not every White is in the middle class, some are actually poor," etc. However one does not know how much of these stereotypes were manufactured such as the stereotype in the 1940s and early 1950s that if you were poor, you would become a criminal or whether the term "not all are ===" should apply to anybody. I do believe it has to do with the person's first encounters with individuals of a particular ethnic group. So if he is unfortunate enough to come against a black gang who are loud mouthed and boastful, he will believe that all blacks are like that. Similarly if an Hispanic woman is hired by a rich white family, she will assume all whites are like that, that is, until they broaden their horizons and see that not everyone fits the same package of their ethnic group and we are all individuals.

Well, those stereotypes depend on the country you're, and they're not limited to races, but to nationalities too. Of course, stereotypes are only that, and can't be taken as the truth, as most of them are just misinformation. For example, I'm in Japan: everyone can do martial arts, are computer and manga geeks, feed on raw fish mainly... I can assure you the reality is far from that

Well i can't say why these stereotypes exist ... but i think the best way is to ignore them ....otherwise if you work in a multinational corp or a place where you need to intereact with people from all races becomes kind of hard ... more than that just by social values we should not differentiate amongst fellow humans like that .. i think that the creation of stereotypes in todays world.. a lot can be blamed to the careless media work ,.. and propaganda !
