Bringing food, drinks, books, newspapers into the bathroom?

Why do people make such a big fuss about people who take food, drinks etc with them into the bathroom? Why do they think it is gross? Most people leave their tooth brushes out in the open some times only feet from the toilet, but when it comes to a drink, they leave that out. Some people even think brining a book into read, and then bringing it back out is even disgusting, but why? You don't take off your glasses, clothes, shoes, etc before you go in, and you wear them for the rest of the day. Your entire body goes into the bathroom, and most people only wash their hands. Your elbows, legs, face, hair is all in the bathroom, but you don't clean them every time you go into the bathroom, so why can't you take a drink, book etc into the bathroom? Your thoughts...

Actually there has been evidence that when a toilet flushes the germs from the toilet can rise up out of the toilet and be spread throughout the bathroom. For that reason I wash my toothbrush really well before I use it everytime. Bringing a food and drink in there might not be too bad as long as you remove them before you flush the toilet, but then there is a potential for germs to travel from your hands after you wipe, then having to hold or carry those things.

That is my point exactly, why worry about certain things being "contaminated", when your entire body is going to be "contaminated" from the toilet spewing out particles every time; I don't know anyone who has a full shower after using the washroom, or who wears a bio-chemical suit :D.

I take my coffee in the morning in the bathroom with me and I have some magazines in the bathroom as well. I don't see it as gross you are right everything else is in there.

Because it's just disgusting. I don't keep my toothbrush the same room as the toilet either, I bring my toothbrush out after I'm done. I always think about the hygene of things, but sometimes I do take a textbook. Because I need to study and why not. Lots of people do it so I'm not embarrassed. But not my ipod or things like that since I try to get bathroom activities over with fast and be gone. But yeah, it's completely gross and disgusting.

You bring your hair in with you (well, duh, because it's attached to your hair :D), and that comes out "contaminated" and then you touch it all day. Why not the Ipod then?

I think that its fine to go into the bathroom with a book, newspaper etc.. I think its a bit gross to eat whilst your sitting on the toilet. A bit unhygienic, as you may have lifted the seat up with your hands (where there could be poo particles) and these could be transfered from your hands to your food and inevitably into your mouth. Drinks arent so bad because you dont actually touch the liquid.. but if you are having a poo there could possibly be poo particles floating around in the air which you breath in when u take a sip from your drink.

But, you are breathing in the air regardless of if you have a drink or not, haha. Unless you hold your breath all the time. Your mouth comes into the bathroom with you no matter what. When I sit on the toilet I rest my hands on my face, etc. So whats the big deal if I use them to hold food. As long as I don't get my hands soiled and then touch food, I don't mind. I don't touch my food, drinks, books, after I clean up though; I wash my hands before touching the stuff after.

I know some people like to bring newspaper or books to the bathroom. They enjoy reading it there. At least I can accept to it even if I won't do it myself. However, bringing food and drinks to the bathroom is so odd in my opinion because it is not a good place to eat. Actually it makes me feel horrible to imagine eating something there. It is not clean. I love China

Oh by all means I probably would not bring a whole meal in there, with forks, plate etc, but I would take a small sandwich, if I was almost done eating it, or a packet of peanuts and other things like that. I wouldn't eat my fillet mignon in there, that is for sure. ;)

I think for those who think bringing food and drinks into bathroom disgusting are in fact concerned about the feeling of having them in such place rather than worry about hygiene. Nevertheless, I don't see bathroom as the best place to consume food or beverage (thought I sometimes take drinks with me to bath) because of its usual smell.

When you use the bathroom it is with a purpose. I don't see the need to bring food and drinks and reading materials to the bathroom.

Sometimes I just get eating or drinking something, like a sandwich, or a cup of tea. Then all of a sudden I feel my bowels move. I don't want my tea to get cold, and I know I am going to be in there for awhile, because I have diarrhea, etc. Also, for the sandwich scenario, I am late for work, so I multi-task a bit ;). Oh come on, not even reading material?! I usually play some sudoku while I take a poop, I work out my brain, while I work out the feces... :DP

I like to read book into the bathroom, I sometimes take my drink in as well. But, I don't bring food into the bathroom and eat there. I don't even know why. Just feel doesn't right to do so. Maybe it's the state of mind that society created.

I personally think that's a question of "believe or not". It's only rely on one's feeling, totally subjective. They just "feel" it is disgusting. So nothing surprise.

I would never bring food or drinks in the bathroom! But if we speak about newspapers of books, yes, I used to do it years a go. Some people like to read there, some claim that they have a small book shelf in the toilet. It's a place where you can concentrate. But nowadays a have no time to stay and read there.

In my country, bathroom is a place for us to clear the dirt of body! So if you take food, drinks into it,we always think it will be not healthy ! and in our country, there are less people do this,we do make a big fuss about it.

Hi wiggle, maybe the fact that they don't like to bring the food there is because they imagining all bacteria and germs they can get here, but don't be a fool, as for you, do you want to let your cr dirty? maybe your answer is no, of course we have to clean it from time to time, imagining the cr that sanitize 2 times a day, it can more clean than your closet, more clean than your table, and more clean than the cellphone you're always holding, the sense here is, we dont have to say that the bathroom is totally dirty, its the way how you clean it.
