Do you bring your child to the dentist to pull out the baby teeth?

My son is 6 years old. One of my son's baby teeth was a little loosed. Since I didn't see the new tooth grow and I am not a dentist. So today I brought my child to the dentist. The dentist pulled out one of his baby teeth. Oh, I had to say it's a little like a nightmare for me and my child because he was crying and said it's painful when the tooth was pulled out. Finally it's done. Now I wonder whether my decision is correct or not. I hope his new tooth will grow up soon and therefore it might be good in order in the future. Do you think it is in a hurry for me to bring him to see the dentist so fast? Probably I shall wait for some time until this tooth is fallen by itself? Will you bring your child to the dentist to pull out the baby teeth all the time?

when i was at that time, all my teeth are fallen by themself. so it's not pain at all. and it always happened to me when i was chewing something and the teeth fallen. if the new teeth haven't grow up, maybe you can wait for some time.

I am afraid that his new teeth are not good in order because it seems that his teeth don't fall as well as other children.

hello youless, usually the teeth just falls off with the help of your son twisting and pushing it using his tongue or fingers. but still it was good that you brought him to a dentist. he probably was afraid of the dentist because he was already thinking that it was painful. yet we all know that dentists will always make sure the patient gets the best care. have a nice day. ann

Perhaps next time I shall find a female dentist because females shall be much more patient to children.

Hi youless, I didn't take my kid to see the dentist to cope with his baby teeth. For we prefer the milk teeth to fall naturally without any pain. This is the traditional way how people here are used to deal with these temporary teeth. The first baby tooth of my son had fallen while he was studying in his class in his second year primary two. That was in his age of seven. It's the front milk teeth on the top. He looked rather indecent without a front tooth when he told us about the story of his lost tooth in school. He showed us the tooth wrapped in tissue as well. Yeah, his caring form teacher took good care of him in the class. His voice seemed rather ridiculous when uttering words with "s" sound Actually we had told him earlier how to deal with it when he felt the tooth was a bit loose. I think the dentist is a professional person and knows well everything relevant to dental matter. So there is nothing much to worry about the extraction of your son's milk tooth. I hope your son will get all his permanent teeth grown in order and decent. Happy posting

Oh I see! You worried that there was not enough space for the new or permanent to grow. No wonder you asked the dentist to extract the loose tooth. Yeah, as a caring mom, it's normal that we always have lots of worry

Sometimes I am afraid that the new tooth will grow up even if the baby tooth is still available. I am worried about this situation.

hi youless no you do not need to take him to the dentist for each baby tooth as most really get loose and you can at times just give a gentle pull and it falls out.but once in awhile a babytooth will have twisted roots and be so painful you must take him to the dentist to have the tooth pulled and the dentist can deaden the pain so your son will not'be afraid anymore.

I think you are right. Next time if I don't see his new tooth, I won't bring him to the dentist to fix it. I am sorry I might give my son a bad effect on the dentist. I feel bad to it.

I have never had to take mine to the dentist to get a baby tooth pulled. There are medical conditions that might require that but for the most part..they come out on their own without problem. It's easier on the child if they do. You don't want to make the child afraid of the dentist either. To be honest I'm surprised that the dentist pulled it and allowed your child to be in pain.

Tonight I noticed that it seemed that my son's tooth would grow up soon. I am not sure, because I don't know what is exactly under the gum.

My younger one is just 4 and none of his teeth have fallen. But when my older child's teeth fell...we just let it be. Didn't take him to the dentist. Just like we did as kids, he kept shaking the loose tooth and pushing at it and finally one day it came off. Same for all his teeth.

you did the right thing by pulling the tooth before the new one came in otherwise it would come in crooked..but i never went to the dentist for baby teeth nor did i take my son to the dentist for baby teeth to be pulled b/c they have no roots so it's easy to get them out.

so far... i've tried to take all my children for their routine dental checkups (every 6 months). and normally, i would just follow whatever is advised by the dentist. my son is already 13, still has some of 'baby (molar) teeth' - and the dentist said that looking at his gum.. his 'real teeth' are just not coming out yet, so the baby teeth can just stay there until it's time for them to 'fall off'. my other son who is 9 - just had his two front baby teeth fall off.. my youngest daughter (6) - has quite a number of cavities in her baby teeth.. but the dentist is not keen in pulling them out.. just treated them, and advised to wait till the teeth fall out themselves.. i think most of the time, the dentist will always advise against pulling out the baby teeth, unless it's really decayed / rotten.. so.. i usually follow their advise.. and i also usually go to the government clinic - maybe i'm just being paranoid - but i have this 'fear' that 'private dental clinics' will usually advise to extract your teeth - to earn their profits (dental treatment charges)..

I hope that the doctors can be good and won't just earn the biggest profit from the patients. I can understand your concerns because the teeth are quite important for everybody for the whole lives.

When my son was small, we did not take him to the dentist for pulling any teeth. We just let his teeth fall and grow naturally. Now my son has very beautiful white teeth after the baby teeth were renewed. People nowadays pay more attention to their teeth. I think that it is a good idea for people to do so. Bless your baby.

Yeah, I have to pay attention to my child's teeth because my teeth are not well. And you know having good teeth is so important. I want to spend money for the dental health.

youless, I think you are not in the wrong even though your son had experienced a traumatic extraction which is debatable with the dentist or his tooth condition. I can understand that the experience your son underwent but at least the extraction assured your child from any other possible infection or complications which could not be anticipated. So on this aspect, you are right to bring him to the dentist. As for my child, his baby tooth just came off without anyone of us noticing - painless, so he did not have to go to the dentist. However, my neighbor's daughter was not so fortunate as she had some gum infection and as such they had to bring her to the dentist for the extraction. I have to say that it is really situational as far as the call is concern, so you will just need to observe and determine if the visit to the dentist is really required.

I hope next time my son will be lucky and have his baby tooth fallen naturally. Having a child is not easy at all. I wish I could be the doctor when he was sick. I wish I could be the dentist when his teeth grow. I wish I could be the teacher when he studied.

Well, if you see that there is not enough room for a permanent tooth to grow in because the space is too small, sometimes you may need a dentist to remove a baby tooth, or a second baby tooth. Also, another reason could be that the baby tooth will never fall out on its own or even get looser than it is, because you can see the permanent tooth coming in BEHIND it. As long as the baby tooth is removed and there is enough space, the permanent tooth will usually move into the right position. In a normal case, the permanent teeth are supposed to come up right under the baby teeth and eat away the root, which is what makes it loose and fall out. This just doesn't always happen and sometimes needs a little bit of help.

Yes, the first time. I think we were able to do this two times, but afterwards, the teeth just get removed by themselves when they get too loose. We just encourage the kid to move the tooth often to loosen it and it works always.

Hello normally there is no need to take a baby to a dentist to get a baby tooth extracted, because the root is not deep seated, when it is shaking a mild twist and pull is enough to pull it out, but if it gives pain for some infection, dentists help is needed, you did the right thing probably.. Thank you so much. Professor. . Cheers God bless you.

I don't know what to tell you in this case since I don't have any children. I don't think it will be necessary to take him to the dentist again. I just wanted to relate this story, though. I went to the dentist when I was around 10 years old, maybe not quite that old. I don't remember. The dentist told me that I had two teeth that were supposed to come out. Well, when I went back to the dentist six months later, he was surprized to see those teeth still in there. They were a little loose but they just never did come out. Anyway, he pulled them and they were so long rooted! He said "No wonder they didn't come out!", lolIt wasn't a bit painful but it's because they were ready to come out, anyway.
