In todays world, rented properties have become too expensive and also on the other hand getting a new home is extremely expensive. What should be done in this case. Which would be a better idea. Owning a house, gives us a security of being safe where as rented houses gives us the flexibility of shifting from one place to another as and when required. In any case I would prefer being in a self owned house even if it is relatively small. At least I would not have any tensions related to shelter in case of bad patch of my life. What is your preference.

If I could afford to buy a house, then I prefer to own my house that is fully paid off and just have to worry about paying taxes and that's it. I'm living in an apartment and every year the rent is going up. Today we just got a notice to make a new lease and now we have to pay for water. We never had to pay water for these apartment, but I guess now we have to pay for water. Renting an apartment these days is expensive. Imagine paying $730 a month for 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom. I even seen worst that people pays $900 a month for just a 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom apartment. In this case it's better to rent a house then. I can find houses with rent of $500 a month that haves 2 bedroom and 2 bathrooms and is bigger than the apartment we are living in, but cause of other issues we won't move. But back to topic, I prefer to own my house since I would love to a house that is mine.

In today's world rented house is so costly but and also the it is difficult to buy own home...But suppose let us assume we are staying in a rented house which costs us Rs. 5000 pm. As it is rented some day we are going to leave it. Suppose we leave it after 11 months hence we spent 55000 Rs. on that. In contrast to this if we buy our own home 5000 can be our installment for house loan amounting approximately 500000 Rs. As it is rented house it wont give us anything after 11 months. But after completion of our loan period we will become owner of 1 house. So I think it is better to own own house rather that staying in rented house.

Here, the monthly payment for mortgage similar to rent for a same flat except one has to pay a lump sum (around 10%) when buying a flat. So, what do I prefer? I don't like moving all the times as it is so troublesome to look for a flat and pack/unpack your stuff. So, why not use the money to buy a flat where the money eventually goes back into my pocket?

Hi, I won't never stay in a rented house and I don't like it. Last time, my husband has the intention to rent a house since we need more space and our current place is pretty limited. I did not agree to it because rented a house, it mean we have to takecare of other people's house and we can't renovate the house so nice as this house is not belong to us. At least, we decided to buy our own house and we did it.We just bought a simple house which is enough to accomodate 3 of us.The location is not bad and it is a brand new house. Although it is not a big house, but at least, this house is belong to us and we can do what kind of renovation as we like and the money that we spent on renovation is worthy.

I would really have a self owned house. Renting will cost us many houses already if we plan to live with it forever. Better it is to provide ourselves with permanent shelter than that of having unstable security and shelter of the family. We may never know when our contracts end for rented houses.

I prefer self owned house. It gives you security and peace of mind that at the end of the day a house is waiting for you. and you can set your root on a definite place. You can established friendship with your neighbor. but the problems are you have to pay for the taxes, insurance, PG& E bills. etc. You also have to save for repairs. Unlike in renting the owner will be the one to handle all your bills. but there is no guarantee that they will rent it forever and most of the time they increase the rent. Despite all of this I still want to have a house. I want to raise up our kids on our own house.

Damn the expense, lol. I'd take owning a home over renting any day. Moving around is expensive and unsettling.

If I can afford a house, I of couse prefer to having a self-owned house. Renting a house usually is not a happy experience. And now the renting fee is getting higher and higher. Right now I rent a small apartment for myself, and most of my earning is given to the house onwer as the renting fee. So, I straggle to make ends meet. Buying a house needs a large amount of money. But, I think, if you have your own, you can live a more comfortable life. Wish I can buy one soon.

I used to think I wanted to own a house, but now I'm getting to where I'd rather rent where the owners would be responsible for all repairs and yard grooming.!

I prefer living in my own house where i know i can be safe and would like to be really staying inside the house because i love how it was designed and built. We are still waiting for our house to be built and will move in one of these months and im so excited for i have been living in a place where i really don't like the way the house looks from inside.

HI Kartik True that we are in a soup. We spend so munch paying the rentals, To be honest 50% of our income(me and my wife) goes into paying the rentals. Many a times we wish that we had a place of our own but as you say the prices are too high. The better idea obviously is to have a home of our own because that way you can save some money but you should have the riches to buy the house. It would be economical in the long run (once the installments to the bank are cleared you would save the amount that you would have paid as rentals). You could also rent out a portion in case you had a need for some more money. Lastly, you would have a place called your own and can do things that you wanted to do with it!

I guess most people will really prefer having their own houses. Renting is like paying for something you can never have. If you stop earning money you stop having a house. That is really scary. I don't have my own house myself. I really want to have one, just don't know how at the moment.I am already 30 years old and still I don't know when I could save up money to buy one or even money for the house loan down payment.

I will prefer a self owned house. The stability is definitely there and it's my own property after all. Unlike rented house, we can be thrown out anytime the landlord feels like it, and being tenant, we are always at their mercy when they keep increasing the rent, just to force us out. What's the point of flexibility when we don't get to stay in one place for more than a week?

How about owning a home and letting it out to reliable people, and then moving to a larger rented accomodation in the outskirts, with the same rent? :) I think we can have the cake and eat it too may be, isn't it? :)

As far as I am concerned, I think at the moment I am so poor and have no ability to buy myself a house. So I think It will be better for me to rent a house at fist and then go to find a good job to pay for the price of the house. When the time I have the ability to buy me a wonderful house , then the best choice is to buy a house there, which is my own!

Hi Kartik, I'm also like you. I'd rather have a self owned house than a rented one. Also if we think about it, those money that we use to pay the rental every month, if we calculate it we could actually already pay a deposit for a small flat. I don't mind having a small flat as long as it is mine and I have every right on what to do with it. I always hate renting because I also don't get much privacy and I don't really like the contract.

Of course I will choose my own house. I don't have to pay rent money again. I know I have to do much to keep my house clean (rent house maybe have maid), but still, it's more enjoyable to have your own house and it could show you that you're already an independent person.

heloo hey frnzz owning a house is much better than renting it because in these days the cost of renting and owning the house is almost same and also rented house means it has many restrictions like we must not make ;oud sounds and we must not keep nails for walls etc and also if we own a house we will have our respect in the society and also if we applied for any passport or like that we can give our own adress which is very easy for us so frinzzz in my view it is better owning a house than renting it.....

I prefer to live on my own house because I feel safe and comfortable. For me renting a house where you will be paying a monthly rent and won't be owning the house is a waste of money.I rather buy my own house and have it on installment fee, paying the house every month and the thought of you will be owning this after a while makes me happy and proud that I get to own a house with my own blood and sweat poured into it.
