Have you ever eaten an unusual meal? Were you criticized for not liking it?

I didn't know how to title this, but tonight my daughter cooked dinner because it was her boyfriend's birthday. I had heard them say something about it being tacos. I'd been sick most of the day, so I was looking forward to it since I could smell whatever it was cooking. When I got downstairs, I learned that it wasn't tacos - it was some kind of macaroni dish I didn't recognize. She said it was macaroni and cheese, but that didn't sound right because I could see green things in it. Turns out she added broccoli and celery and then put it all on top of boneless, skinless chicken bites before baking it. Now, I LOVE macaroni and cheese. It has to be really bad for me to not want seconds. And, I like broccoli and cheese almost as well. But, there was just something really odd about combining them along with chicken chunks that didn't sound right. Well, I ate it. Topped it with some ketchup (which I actually like on mac-n-cheese) while her brother poured salsa all over his. Of course, I was the strange one for putting ketchup on mine. Anyway, it tasted like it had tuna fish in it!!! I finished it, but I don't want any more. I feel bad, but what can I say? I've made a couple of things this last week - actually three things - and no one has touched them because they thought they were too weird. But, I did try this and I did eat all of it, but there's something wrong with ME because I didn't like it? I'll admit, part of it might be that I haven't felt good all day. In fact, I slept all afternoon because I felt like crap. But, this meal just didn't appeal to me. It was plenty cheesy, which is why I did eat it. But, I'd have liked it better if there was no chicken in it. I'd have liked it even more without the broccoli (despite how much I like broccoli). So, have you ever had someone make dinner that you thought was unusual? Did you like it? If you didn't, did the person get upset about it even though they have no problem not liking what you make?

If it has celery in it and it wasn't cooked to mush, I wouldn't have eaten it, and I'd've just lived with any criticism, I hate the stuff. Now, I don't care if people don't want to eat anything I fix, after all, I have had some pretty strange stuff on my plate. However, there is a point where I won't eat stuff, and sushi is one of those things. I don't like the fishy stuff, don't even like fishy fish... Now, I like fish, just not fishy fish. Man, I miss NJ and that lovely blue fish... I'm not sure about the chicken bites, I like tuna and mac & cheese, but I probably wouldn't want broccoli in it either...

My family all hate something that I rather enjoy. My brother, who generally eats anything, came to visit. We went to a Mennonite Relief sale. There were Mennonite German foods, and I guess he did not listen when they explained what this dish is. The dish is called Bohne Bierogi (sp?) It is a sweet bread roll stuffed with mashed sweetened pinto beans. Then you top it with a vanilla sauce. It tastes good to me, but it turns every one elses stomach.

With all adults here, we either eat what is served, or make something for ourselves. My hubby has a casserole that he got out of a Scandinavian cookbook and it sounds really gross, but it tastes good. I like it better each time we have it, but that has only been about three times. it is calle Janssen's Temptation and it has onions and hash browns and ANCHOVIES and sour cream and that is all I can remember. There are many things my son will not try, especially if they have veggies. Hubby does not do pasta. We all use good manners about it though.

Have to say, sweetened pinto beans doesn't sound good, but then again, it might be. We have some German dishes around here that weird me out, but I can't eat sausage any more (doctor's orders) and the time I ordered this fish... it still had the eyeballs!!! yuk!

I like experimenting with foods..so there have been alot of things my hubby wouldn't eat..his words are if it looks like someone puked on your plate..that doesn't make it appetizing at all..But I have had some weird looking stuff taste good..and normal looking stuff taste not so good..lol..My niece made me a meal once chicken and dumplings..Now I love chicken and dumplings..but for some reason hers come out tasting like paste..but I ate the meal with lots of water...because I didn't wanna hurt her feelings.

My sister loves to cook, but sad to say that, her cooking is not always good. There were times that, she can make good ones but most of the time it's a disaster really. But what to do then,we still ate what she prepared then and make sure that the next meal is for human (hahaha) She admits she's not a good cook but she really loves to cook and wants to learn. I just don't understand why she can't learn the proper cooking for dishes that she usually cook (taste bad still even after few try) I hope she improves now becoz we will be spending our vacation this coming December with her.

You said you're not feeling well, that could be the reason why you didn't have the appetite to eat something you usually like. Anyway, there would really come a time wherein much as you would want to eat but you can't because what you see at the table is not eye-catching or not deliciously looking. I guess it depends on the presentation and the food preparation. Much of that, you just have to thank your daughter for cooking something for dinner, she could be experimenting. Just inform her on how to do it the right way.

Did the boyfriend ask for it to be fixed like she did it? Or was it a recipe she made up on her own or got out of a cookbook?

I'm hoping that's it. I did finish the helping I had, though. And, her boyfriend liked it, which was who it was for, so that's the biggest issue out of the way. She said she was happy he didn't drown it in hot sauce like he usually does. LOL
