Are you reading your bills or just paying them?

Luckily for me I go through my bills with a fine tooth comb otherwise the Phone Company would have cheated me about 5 or 6 times now. I always look at my statements and see were all my money goes before I pay the bill and sometimes they over charge or put some extra crap on it that you don't even use. I know people that just pay their bill without really looking at them . Yesterday I got my Phone bill and it was $5 more than normally and they added some extra long distance on it. They think they can get away with it cause lots of people don't really pay attention but I do. Have you ever paid a bill not realizing you over paid?

Ours is usually the same price monthly and when it isn't we then go over to see where the extra charges are coming from. I have had up to $17 added to my phone bill, which they told me that I had to pay, but then they would reimburse me in 60-90 days. I was like..why not take it off now..and I won't have to wait for you to take it off my bill 60-90 days from now. But they wouldn't..said she was sorry but that is how they do it. They took it off..and the next month I ended up with another $13 dollars added..then $7..for 3 months I had all this extra added on but since I didn't have long distance even(which is what they were charging me for) I told them it was some mistake on their end..they said they didn't know where the charges came from even..since I wasn't even allowed to make long distance calls..thankfully after those first three months.I never had anymore of those charges added. But people do have to watch out for the internet that can if you don't read the small print add charges onto your phone bill.

3 times the phone company put third party charges on our phone bill and we had to call the to take it of. They took it of right away and we just had to pay the regular bill.

The phone and the cable company are the worst for trying to cheat you. I go through my bills with a fine tooth comb. I have caught that bandit cable company trying to get me several times. If I see a penny difference...I'm all over it..lol..My bills are fixed rate so there is no way they are getting over on me.

The Phone Company is the worse for me. My Power Bill is a fixed rate, it's the same every month. The cable company is pretty good except they keep raising their prices

I usually read my bills. Sometimes, I will just pay them, but for the most part, I like actually looking at them and reading them. It's really just for my own piece of mind more than anything else.

Mine are usually pretty much the same every month so if they of by so much as a couple dollars I start checking. Money is tight and every dollar helps.

Well, I usually get a quick look at my bills, but don't spend much time in reading them throughly. Mostly because I don't understand well the words used in bills, so reading them wouldn't really make a difference in my case. It's good to hear that you are alert enough to prevent the phone company from stealing money from you. Maybe I should make you take a look at my bills too

I read it well. That is what a good buyer should be. Determine if the purchased amount is correct with the commodities that you buy. Most of the time the overcharge you or add other services that you did not even asked or use. I was a victim of that a couple of times before when I was doing my shopping sometimes the cashier double scan the product that you purchased. so you ended paying more. And with the phone company there are too many scams going on so if you will not check that you will be paying a lot in the long run for they charged monthly. So what I did is a called the number and tell them to give me a refund because I am not using any of their services. They refund it to me but the next month they charged me again. Maybe they think that we are foolish and I will not remember to check it. So they charged me $ 14 dollar again, I called and tell them to refund it. After waiting for a very long time on the phone they give me the confirmation number saying that they refund me and will no longer charge me. So let us be vigilant. Every dollar counts. Do not let them rob the hard earned money that we have.

I had to do that 3 or 4 times with the Phone company. It's such a hassle straightening out your bill over the Phone but it's worth it at the end when they give you your money back.

I do look at my bills closely. Fortunately many of them are the same every month. I learned right away that the Verizon bill must be reviewed carefully. They are always trying to sneak in one extra charge or another.

It's crazy some of the stuff they try to put on your bill. One time I had 3 different "Call Waiting" carriers. I called them up and asked them why I would need 3 different once

I think they are very casual about the mistakes. They are not concerned about the mistakes, and they figure if you do not ask about the extra charges, they can use the extra money. That is a real lack of integrity and proabably sloppiness on their part.

It seems that we have similar habit. When I received my Phone Bills I always check all the transactions I made for the whole month, mostly I will record all my calls everyday, I did it late at night when I am busy. I compared it to the transactions recorded in my bill. I always call my Phone provider if there are discrepancies on the billings. If I am not doubt that's the time I stop and make myself ready to pay it on the specific time.

I always pay the bills around the same time, the most trouble with my bills is the Phone Bill. It's so easy to put extra fees on there and if no one checks they get away with it.

We check most things, especially if they seem a bit higher than usual. We also go through the bank statements - there was an error on there this month. It wasn't for a huge amount but it was a paypal debit for something we didn't have. We've called Paypal and they are aware there are a number of payments like this and will put it right but I wonder if we hadn't called if they would have refunded anyway?

Same thing here, I was overcharged before and good thing I asked a refund. Practice checking your bills especially, phone and credit card statements before paying.

I read them but I know a lot of people who setup auto payment through their credit card or bank so in those cases they don't even read or see the bill before paying.

That's a good way to get cheated. I rather be able to see my bill and go through it than just have money taken without making sure the bill's right.

Hi missy! I'm with you! I don't just pay a bill without looking at it either. My cable, phone and internet are all connected and the bill should be the same amount every month. If it isn't I want to know why. The Cable company charges enough money as it is for the three services. The bill that I do watch the most is the Electric Bill. There really isn't anyway for us to know if they are screwing around or not because the meters are locked up and how would we know how to read them anyway? I think they get away with murder, and how can you argue with them, although many of us do try! You need your electricity and they know it and know you have no way of proving the real cost!

Since I had my cable {about 7 years} they went up almost 20 dollars, my power I had adjusted so I pay the same amount for every month and the after a year they adjust it according to my usage and the it goes up or down depending. I like it that way cause I always know how much it's gonna be and I try to keep everything turned of and my air is on 79 so they don't raise it.

Generally, I go through the telephone bills in detail so that I can find out who is using how much. And I know the approximate rate of the food items in some restaurants I used to visit often and I need not check them. But recently, I paid for an item that we didn't eat. That was a new restaurant and I was in a hurry when we left and so i just paid like that. Later at home, my daughter I found the flaw but it was too late to claim. Next time, I will be careful whatever may be the hurry burry.

That happened to me at the grocery store before. I don't pay attention to what they ring up and then when I check the receipt they overcharged me.

Of course I read all the times then compare the last bill statement if they increase or decrease. When their is a sudden increase i always make a complain since it may be the fault of the inspector to compute or such as in light bill or in water bill their may be a leakage that could be the cause. Sometimes it is fault by computer glitch so I really make a good comparison and any increase is cause for investigation since the normal bills becomes questionable and I really seek clarification since it is not a joke to pay in excess of something which not really consume by me it could be unfair on my side so really have to seek for further clarification.

Hi missybear, You're right. We have to put an eye to those bills and not just get used on paying them. As for me, when I found something questionable, I abruptly make a call to clear things up before paying them. Well such act make them somehow that we take a lot of concern and they would also discreet on billing us next time.

I wish my boyfriend would pay more attention to the bills. If it was up to him he never check them and he doesn't like it when I make him call and complain. All the bills are in his name so he's the one that has to call. I'm the one who pays them most of the time
