Do you speak truth always...? Does it help you..?

In moral lessons we are taught that we should always speak the truth.I have been pondering over this many times,but I could not reach any conclusion.The more I think about it the more confuseed I get.Speaking truth is noble no dount.In my experience I got into trouble by speaking truth only.I I had lied I would have been happy.One thing I learnt that by speking a lie we should not harm others . I think we can speak a lie once in a way to save ourselves or to save others.But it should not be habit or routine.Some time I soke truth and hurt others and alsoo made enemies.What is the bet policy according to you whether to speak truth always or lie always or lie once in a way..

I would rather speak the truth than fabricate stories. This is what is so hard with lies, you would need to back it up with much more fabricated stories!

They say that honesty is the best policy but honesty is not always appropriate. Would you tell someone that they are ugly or have a bad breath?
There is this situation of moral dilemma that is often asked in an ethics class:
If someone hides from a bad guy in your house and then the bad guy comes to your house and asks if you ever see this person. Would you tell the truth that he is in your house and let the bad guy kill him or would you tell a lie to save this person?

It's hard to theorize this. 
Of course telling the truth is the best, but there are cases when you just can't tell the truth.
Like if one of your parents is ill, and the doctor tells you how bad it is. Would you tell your parent the whole truth risking to make her/him feel worse, or would you hide the truth by telling an innocent lie?
This is only one exemple, but there can be hundreds of situations when the truth would do more harm than an innocent lie.
Of course telling the truth is the best, but there are cases when you just can't tell the truth.

Yes I agree. It is a very delicate issue.We cannot always speak truth.I got into trouble by speaking truth.Saying a lie is not only bad but we also feel bad.I think we should act according to circumstances.Some times we have to say blatant lie to save ourselves or some others.Innocent lie is different.Truth pays many times but not always...

I don't know know what is the best. I have to think. Telling the truth all the time would get me in trouble.

By speaking the truth I got into trouble many times.At the same time telling alie is also not correct.I think wew should say truth or lie depending upon the situation.What I personally feel is we can lie to save ourselves and to save others.Othwerwise we should speak truth only.When we lie we feel bad and guilty.You can adopt via media policy and act act according to circumstances.....
